Varifocal glasses

Had my eye test today, getting old I now need separate glasses for distance and reading. They offered me varifocal, I considered it but decided to play safe and not have them, as people say they take a lot of getting used to. So who had had them ? and did you get used to them or end up going back to normal lenses ?

I have them. It took me about a month of persevering to get used them but I'm very happy that I did I find it no different to normal glasses now except for the convenience of not needing to change glasses.

I've had them a couple of weeks. It's weird at first but I couldn't be bothered carrying two pairs of specs round with me, there's enough shit in my handbag.

I am on my 2nd prescription of variables,had bi-focal before and found those harder to get used to,you find that your eyes tend to automatically look through the correct part of the lens for the distance you are looking after about a week or two

I have them.They do take a bit of getting used to but persevere.If I had more than one pair id just keep forgetting were id put them!

I have after having bi focals and I wouldn't go back to the bifocals .i find the varifocals good now I'm used to them

You Dont Need to Know, right now

I couldn't get used to bi-focals, but found it really easy to get used to varifocals. Having said that, I often take my specs off altogether for reading/close up work. I would definitely not have two pairs of specs though. Go for the varifocals.

I usually wear Toric contact lenses but I need glasses for reading.

Now it's a case of £20 a month for lenses or one good pair of varifocal glasses. Out of work so cannot justify £20 a month for vanity so it's the glasses for me

Took me about a week to get used to them, now they're just part of my face.

My main hobby though is scuba diving and I need my contacts for underwater, so that's taken a back seat at present

I wear varifocals. They weren't as difficult to get used to as people claimed. I prefer distance glasses for driving and reading glasses at home.

I thought the prescription part would go right to the edge of the lens. It doesn't. Make sure you upgrade to get a larger area for the prescription part.

I have some (not to be confused with FariVocals!) - I love them they are on for most things but on occasions I take them off; mainly when I talking to someone who is stood quite close to me - the bottom bit of the lense is needed for this so I'm chatting to them with my head at an odd angle.

They weren't too bad to get used to but someone I know tried them said walking down stairs was scary - I don't have any problems.

There are different types as well. Mine are known as digital (for no obvious reason!). Instead of bleeding downwards they have a figure off 8 type shape. Apparently designed to allow long mid and short sight. . Very very odd sensation. Took me a week to get used but worth preserving

Ohh I like my varifocals need to get used to them and careful on the stairs. I cannot be bothered with two pairs. I have the sunglasses as well great for driving.. give them a try .. so much easier than swapping

Best thing I ever done was swapping my 2 pairs of specs for varifocals. Was reluctant to do it but I was used to them in a few hours. I'm now about to try varifocal contact lenses when I'm back from hols for wearing on nights out as I'm bad for taking my glasses of and losing them.

It took me a day or two to get use to them. The worse bit was going down stairs. I was told to take them off on the stairs for the first few days but by the end of day two I was fine...

Highly recommended...

go back and get them to check they are sitting in the right place might need a slight adjustment.

Top half for distance bottom for reading but inbetween its blurred,like if im looking at a poster on a wall its blurred no middle ground

Now I have glasses for driving, left in the car.

Pairs of 'Readers' are kept all over the place - work, kitchen, living room, bedroom, handbags.

I have them and I wouldn't go back to separate glass's, took me a couple of days to get use to them

I don't actually need them for reading as I was told by an optician when I was young that I wouldn't need reading glasses when I am old and I can read a book/paper/ingredients on an item etc its that I need the distance bit so that I can see when I am sat at my desk at work but then see who is in front of me, if that makes sense
