anyone on here in the media and tell me why they continue to try and knock somoeone who most people wish nothing but well of?

From what people i know who have met him or sparred him say he is a decent guy, hardly a saint, which he will admit himself

so why does the media keep bringing up non stories just to promote the bad side of him?

its not just fury is it, the media seem more interested in negative news than good news

There...

It's true that the media are often guilty of knocking folk off the pedestals they themselves put there but in this case, well, they're right. It seems he opened his mouth and out poured a racist and homophobic diatribe which got him media attention he probably didn't expect - or maybe he just thinks any media coverage is good?

He says it as he sees it - and fair play to him. The number of people who I have worked with who have said "I`m not a racist or homophobic" - and then get them out for a few beers - and you discover the exact opposite is true!

At least Fury has the spine to speak his own mind - I'll credit him with that

If i remember Ali said some shocking stuff about Joe Frasier before their fight, but he is put up as some sort of intellectual boxer. I don't agree with anything Fury has said, but boxing is a macho sport and the fighters know controversy sells tickets/pay per view audience.

The reason most footballers don't come out with similar stuff as Fury has is the are PR trained to an inch of their life from an early age, so to get them to say anything that isn't a cliched soundbite would be an achievement in itself.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

The media twist anything vaguely non-bland to make it as sensational as possible.

Fury doesn't have the intelligence or media training to exert self control.

The two statements combined have an inevitable outcome, so it shouldn't be a surprise to either "side" of the discussion...

I wasn't defending or attacking anything he may have said. I was simply making the point that people on this thread have made similar comments about him that they feel he's done to others but, wouldn't stand in the ring like he does to back up what he says.

Outside opinions on a persons life should have no relevance on them as everyone lives their life differently.

The fact of the matter is regardless of whether his opinion is right or not he is entitled to it,he grew up in the travelling community where homosexuality is probably more taboo than in any other society, his views would have been bred into him from birth so before condemning him for his views people should look at a way of changing hearts and minds.

Who is saying he isn't entitled to his opinion? No ones saying he should be thrown in jail. People are just giving their opinions in return. If he and his supporters can't take that then he should keep his thoughts to himself.

I am not saying it is a free pass but when a person is brought up in a certain way it is quite difficult for them to see anything else,I myself by the way am no fan of his but I do think that his mindset has been drummed into him practically from birth and it's hard for a person in that mindset to see they are wrong until they are re-educated

"His achievement in becoming World Champ isn't up for debate, his comments are.

He has come across a certain way,and I wondered if he'd been misquoted or quoted out of context, but he was on Radio2 earlier to confirm it all

He thinks he should be SPOTY cos there's no skill in Formula 1 or tennis...!

Saw him on the news earlier, he said he is currently the biggest personality in British sport. "

Currently the biggest prat.

Obviously there are not many ex boxers on here , i boxed for many years only as an amateur and to even turn pro is a monumental achievement , let alone win the heavyweight championship of the world

As for his attitude well the media and promotors have done that to sell him , i have met Anthony Joshua a few times and a more lovely guy you would never meet but the tv are trying to make him a bad boy and its just not working he couldnt b nasty if he tried !! Until he gets in the ring then hes a real bad ass

We should get behind our boys , they are literaly putting their lives on the line for our entertainment (sorry about the rant lol )

I'm not totally sure what you are trying to say.

1, he has done well to turn pro, even better to win the belt.

Well this doesn't give him a free pass to be abusive.

2, he's a product of media promotion.

If he's happy to have the media/promoters make him a bigot in order to make money, then I'm not sure that improves his position.

3, We should get behind our boys.

Even if they are bigoted? Does this still work if they are racist, or criminal? I think not.

They said that about Klitschko though!

Considering Joshua is nowhere near Furys level yet I wouldn't hold my breath on a second round ko.

Tyson was scaring the shit out of the division when he was a bairn and knocking opponents out for fun.Fury has no level the division is really poor,it's his height and awkwardness that gets him through.

Give Joshua ten more fights and I reckon he'd sort Fury out in no time.

Give David Haye credit, he is nothing more than a pumped up cruiser weight that had to step up a division to earn a payday and claimed a world title. There haven't been any decent British or world heavyweights since Lewis retired. Every established heavyweight on the scene has struggled against Haye or avoided him.

Joshua is the future for the heavyweight division.

AJ would knock him out NOW

I neither like or dislike Tyson Fury, as people have said, the heavyweight division is poor. But Tyson Fury is at present king of it. He has already stated, he wont give David Haye a shot at the titles, I personally think, Haye would beat him as well

Tyson avoided Lennox Lewis and Mitchell Green, two boxers that he knew had the tools to beat him.

In terms of a classy boxer like sugar ray Leonard no he wasn't. But he was simply unstoppable in his pomp.Which made him a great fighter. He would destroy anything out there now in his heyday without breaking sweat.

"If i remember Ali said some shocking stuff about Joe Frasier before their fight, but he is put up as some sort of intellectual boxer. I don't agree with anything Fury has said, but boxing is a macho sport and the fighters know controversy sells tickets/pay per view audience.

And don't forget that Ali addressed KKK meetings as well...but he is the greatest and opens the Olympics

The reason most footballers don't come out with similar stuff as Fury has is the are PR trained to an inch of their life from an early age, so to get them to say anything that isn't a cliched soundbite would be an achievement in itself.

From what people i know who have met him or sparred him say he is a decent guy, hardly a saint, which he will admit himself

so why does the media keep bringing up non stories just to promote the bad side of him?

its not just fury is it, the media seem more interested in negative news than good news"

its life my friend if you have an opinion about something and he has then their will be a 1000 people who disagree with that opinion ,it would be pretty bad let's face it to say anything about gay people on here and it seems it is out there to so he will have to take the back lash, he has broad shoulders he can take it ,so he doesn't win sports personality of the year who cares as long as he wins his next fight

I've got a few things to say on this subject.

1. He's been stripped of one of his belts which love him or hate him is a complete farce.

2. A BBC news presenter just called him a dick head on live TV .....

3. Sports personality has nothing to do about personality or being a role model.

4. I actually think he might win it

IBF stated no rematch clause, to keep the division active, Fury went against that so he was stripped of the belt. No farce

"He says it as he sees it - and fair play to him. The number of people who I have worked with who have said "I`m not a racist or homophobic" - and then get them out for a few beers - and you discover the exact opposite is true!

At least Fury has the spine to speak his own mind - I'll credit him with that"

What do you think the problem is then- the 'beers' or the people you are mixing with??

I don't understand why when someone gets called out by others for his or her views, those calling them out are classed as 'PC' or as a 'tree hugger'

I far from fit into either category, but I do know right from wrong and appropriate from inappropriate.

Listening to the interview on Radio 2 he said a few stupid things yes, he also quoted from the bible, the media are out to screw him over knowing he don't think before he talks, his entitled to his view just like anyone else providing he ain't breaking any law, being a Christian I think a lot will dislike him for that reason alone.
