The power of words

Do we over use certain words? Use them in inappropriate contexts.

Do certain words conjure up certain things in your head?

Are certain words banded about to much?

Now I want this to be a general discussion not about one word in particular but the word that comes to my mind is the word stalker.

Now in my head that means something sinister that invades and affects your life.

But some use it to describe someone that's messaged you more than once or or text you a couple of times that you haven't replied to. "Stalkerish behaviour"

Another word is phenomenal he/she is phenomenally good looking.

Do some tend to over describe things or is it just me

Stunning is overused. Massively. Especially when a person can't actually see what they're calling stunning.

I know someone who is constantly apologising. That's irritating. Grow a backbone and stop saying sorry!

Awesome is often used to describe something which, to be fair, is quite good really.

Most adjectives on here are over used...

we're all trying to sell ourselves...impress....its a compete time site especially for men.. constantly hearing 'it's a woman's world'... 100 to 1 ratio approximately. It's hard not to be honest....number of women that have disclosed their real age is also not what's displayed....4 in this last week.

It's a shame...but then the filters cause that too happen. ..I've just turned out of that very common and abundant 45 threshold....but that's life. Most over that have been feeding on the fat of the land for too long...

As in "I love you".

Most people these days say it because someone has said it to them, and they don't want a big hoo ha about explaining that they don't want to say something they don't mean, and that just because they aren't ready to say those three little words, doesn't mean that they think any less of you.

"Awesome is often used to describe something which, to be fair, is quite good really. "

I overuse awesome. I know I do it, too. But I figure I can get away with it because I'm awesome

OP, on a different note, I hate the word "chamber." it just freaks me out.

I had a latin teacher who once described how much he disliked the word "kiss." because it is, as he put it, too harsh-sounding a word (the harsh "kih" sound and the double s "hissing sound") for such a soft and beautiful act. I always thought that was interesting.

Brighton - even Hove!

Stunning (as mentioned above) is particularly irritating as I always think the person has been almost knocked unconscious which obviously isn't the case. If you replace the word 'stunning' with 'boring as a cabbage' then you might take more note of the content of the rest of the description and get a better ids of what the person is really like.

And I don't like being called camp because I'm not.

The Town by The Cross

Literally, is the word I hear most misused.

I try to ignore mis use as long as I understand what is being said or as long as the misuse doesn't alter the meaning.

I'm sure there'll be more coming to mind.

how are you defining chamber? My definition would be a bedroom, its not a word I've ever used or really come into contact with.

Try having a word that freaks you out and makes you feel physically sick everytime you hear or see it that is used daily

You think it's bad on here, you should see the fetish sites, every pic of a woman with a cocknin her mouth has at least 29 "good girl" comments.

Also "amazing" if your the type of guy who thinks a naked woman is amazing, you need to get out more, it's just a pic of a woman with no clothes on, calm the fuck down

I have a word which makes me heave but luckily it doesn't come up too often. Can't write it, and thinking of it right now by writing this is making my stomach churn.

It's not really the definition that bothers me. It's the sound of the word. Anyway, I think it is more commonly used in the legal world in any case (judge's chambers, etc.).

I agree!

I always say "I love you" to my parents and son when ever I leave the house or they leave the house.

Me and my boyfriend only say it occasionally as I think it gets over used.

I hate car ads which state that it's the 'beginning if your story' or that you can 'drive your way' etc. Shite! Your story begins when you do and will likely end because you've driven your way and wrapped yourself around a tree!!

This happens often if not careful. 'Two' words were used by me yesterday morning on my way to an prearranged coffee meet..she couldn't have misunderstood me more if I had tried. I appologised for the misunderstanding and explained what it was meant to mean...wouldnt accept my appology...said i only appologised cos I was meeting...at that point being a Sapiophile. ..I said thank for chatting and have a nice day. I turned car around and went back home. I then got verbal abuse...she's blocked.

TWO WORDS....
