how easy is it to buy and fit and after market aux cable for my Mazda 3?

i want to be able to plug my phone or ipod in and listen to music through my radio. i know you an get bluetooth/fm transmitters etc but my experience of them has been somewhat glitchy and i want to treat myself for Christmas.

this is me probably being nieve but aren't all aux cables the same?

i just did the same thing for my prius.... one end into the car... one ended into the phone... play thru the car stereo....

should pay no more than a tenner for the cable itself

but my radio doesnt have the jack point on it cos it is old. i know you can get after market jobbies to plug in to the electrics but have no idea what i am buying. might nop to halfords later.

Sounds like a old stereo, if you have to take the stereo out you may or may not have a aux in the back and even if you did you would have to feed a wire maybe under the dash, just to much hassle! Get a stereo from Ebay with a aux at the front for around £20. Halford will try and send you a stereo around £100 (fairly basic) then fitting on top. Get one off Ebay and fit it yourself.

you can get FM transmitters for about £10, just plug your ipod (or what ever) in and tune your radio to the right channel.

I'd say get a new head unit fitted I had a Sony in my car with built in Bluetooth etc is pretty good in all fairness and I'd advise to steer clear from halfords I previously worked there and known many people who have had many a problems after having audio etc installed xx

If one can get fitted into the current head unit you'll be looking at around £70.

Personally I'd just go for a new head unit with Bluetooth.

I'd recommend the alpine 177BT fantastic head unit

This is what we did - quite a modern car but no AUX

Bought a radio on Amazon £40 - bluetooth AUX SD card slot etc etc Took half an hour to fit with the wiring kit. Cheaper easiier and quicker than trying to retro fit an AUX port.

You can buy aftermarket fascia panels which have a single din hole to install a head unit in. Not expensive & should match the rest of the dash. Then simply fit your chosen head unit & you're done.

Have a look online for a facia for your car. Chances are you'll find a double din one rather than single, but you'll just have a little plastic shelf insert to plug the gap.

Not necessarily cheap, my fascia was about £75 + £200 for the unit + fitting costs...soon adds up

All depends on the car, some are less than £10

Yes.. you can buy a lead to do it. Have a look on ebay..

Bear in mind year, variant and if its an aftermarket stereo.

I remember seeing a deal on eBay for a JL audio W0 subwoofer, JL 500/1 amp and a pioneer head unit for around £280.

Might as well upgrade everything as do the head unit

For the Mazda 3 you can buy the moulding so you can go to single din. For £199 you can buy some nice entertainment systems for the Mazda 3.
