My ex husband was and still is the same, blamed me for everything even though I didn't go anywhere near his stuff, anything goes missing it must have been me!! Not that he is ultra forgetful or anything

If it is flat pack stuff, send him to the pub, and I'll come and help ya. I'm rather good at that for some reason

Frustration at his own ineptitude.

Men dont like asking for help or appearing not to know how to do things sometimes.

Conforming to the male stereotype of know it all handyman. Pressure!

Was going to say has he tuned the set top box in, or switched the telly to the correct AV? But if you don't get involved best not to say anything.

sounds a bit like some people do, maybe even you without realising it. If he is inept concerning diy maybe it would be better not to mention it infront of him until it's done.

He'll be frustrated at his own limitations and take out his grumpiness on you. I empathise, but at least he's having a go at something he may not like doing, but does it because you can't afford someone in to do it maybe?

I think you are right but DIY has never been his thing he does try

My partner gets so grumpy we now have an agreement to hire in a odd job man to do the DIY.

It took me five weeks of asking him to put up three screws to hang pictures on as I'm banned from using the drill!

We had a system in our house. I read the instructions and tell him what to do. Although I did most of the flat pack assembly including bunk beds. Kids Christmas presents were his department.

Only a qualified electrician should touch electrics. I did all the technology set ups,I have more patience than my ex and a bit more know how.

Central

He's passing his discomfort with himself on to you. It's a narrow individual who can't accept their own emotional unbalance and personal limitations. The fact he's doing it to you Ruby says a couple of things - he's not respecting boundaries and potentially your intimacy level opens him up to doing this with you.

I'd have some clear words together. And agree a response to him, should he do it again. Do you have nutcrackers at home, in time for seasonal crunching?

It's hard for guys getting older, my dad is in his 60's now & he hates having to ask me to do the stuff that he can't do anymore but could just 3 or 4 years ago. Men are used to being strong & independent but age slowly starts to take it all away.

kinky land

If its a standard set top box it has a live aerial in, a port for out (scart/Hd lead) & a power supply.

If he's trying to hook up to sky/Virgin then it could be a communication issue.

I've always just done pretty much everything around the house but I hate doing doors, hinges and that dreaded hand planer are my nemeses
