Do you think we've lost the element of surprise.....?

I don't think it matters......

I'm pretty sure the surprise factor has limited value when a bomb lands on your head......

What's happening? Has someone told them we're coming? Are they in secret underground bunkers now?

It'll be ok as long as they haven't got telly, or the internet...

It's a news magazine so I don't see why not.

Fascinating article. I'm quite stumped at how prophetic it is.

Don't worry, that article is out of date.

All the things in it are still coming true of course, but the West supports Al-Qaida now as they are enemies of ISIS, so it doesn't count.

Which begs the question. Did they know exactly how the west would react to 9/11? Seems so

The fact is anyone can foretell how Western politicians will act.

1. They will refuse to act when anything is in its infancy and can be stopped dead with little cost. (Because it may seem like imperialism and the electorate wont like that).

2. As whatever the crisis builds they will attempt to appease the most vocal/violent side in the brewing conflict. (Again because they want to look statesman like to their electorate).

3. When appeasement fails and there is a full blown crisis they will first look for scapegoats, then do too little too late and tell us that there was no way of foreseeing what was going to happen.

4. They will then wrap themselves in the flag claiming the moral high ground while sending our castrated and dwindling armed forces in to sort out the mess they created by inaction with unrealistic goals and debilitating restrictions on what they can do.

Well the guardian ran an article on Osama in the 90s declaring him a freedom fighter of great principle.

Thats the trouble with interests, they come back to haunt you!.

I'm a leftist liberal but I have no problem declaring a problem with, how shall I say islamists.

I like free speech and I like free thought and neither of them fit well with Islamic ideology at the moment

Totally agree.

Can't see any other outcome in near future than boots in the ground. My cousin is in forces. He is dying to get sent in and feeling around the forces is same apparently.

When Hitler bombed London in WW2 it strengthened the resolve to fight back and win. It helped recruit soldiers, allies and more. Cambodia was similar, ... IRA too ... Why do we think this will deliver a great result ... It legitimises their cause ... Its what they wanted all along.

I can only think that perhaps our MP's are misguided in what they think is best??

Two people were up at the Old Bailey a couple of weeks ago. They were plotting to blow up Westfield or somewhere similar I think.
