We're having friends rather than family over this year so they're having to adopt our Christmas Day traditions. It made me wonder, how do you do yours?

For us, up, kids do stockings on our bed then down for breakfast. Play for a while, kids/husband to the park while I crack on with the food. About 1ish the sausage rolls are out. Tree presents then. Dinner will be at about 5, no starters - far too much to eat as it is. Then leftovers/ploughmans is available as a help yourself in the kitchen from about 8. Some sort of board game with the tv on.*

*Booze flowing throughout

used to be pre divorce - kids up and stockings opened - breakfast and then pressies round the tree - dinner mid afternoon - then all round to family in wales boxing day -

now - me and the kids do a huge crap food feed about 10 pm xmas eve and we have pressie opening at midnight - theyre older so no early morning get up - i often work xmas day so dinner worked around shifts if poss - they go to dad at some point on the day - have dinner with him if my shift times are daft and we have the meal another day - works most of the time - the kids are 21 and 24 so they cook sometimes and i come back home to a meal all done - guess who gets to wash up then though

every other year we have my mother in law and his grandmother over (which will be the first since we haven't been a couple and quite frankly I'm dreading it)

Usually it's:

Boys get up around 8 (never before and that's with us waking them up, in all the 14 Christmas' we have had since having kids have they ever got up on their own!)

Bring their stockings down stairs (we've down graded the last couple of years on the sack size!)

Open presents (sometimes we wait for mil to arrive)

Put bacon on for sandwiches and have a Buck's Fizz

I used to get a bath run for me so I can use all my new stuff (not quite sure if that will happen this year!)

Then one of us cracks on with the dinner, which is ridiculous it's a fucking roast dinner why does it take so long!!?!) the boys play with their stuff, I'm doing the dinner this year so I can be alone and not have to be in the same room as the in laws

About 1 we eat (depending how long the mega fucking roast takes to cook)

Then we just do our own thing until it's time for doctor who.

If anyone actually feels like eating there is usually left overs.

Now the kids are older they stay up with us and we usually just watch tv.

I tend to head round to the parents' house at about tea time on Christmas Eve. We always have Beef & Stilton - beef stew with thinly sliced potato on top and Stilton on top of that - then I unwrap my Christmas Eve jammies, have a nice bath so I'm clean to wear them. Then we tend to watch a film or TV together, and I stay over.

I tend to be awake first, so I make myself a cup of tea and feed the cat and such. My mum'll get up next, I open my presents from her... step dad gets up not long after, finish unwrapping, step dad does a cooked breakfast. Usually, an hour or so later they go out for a walk leaving me to potter round the house by myself, then we tend to have the big meal around four or five.

Previous years with the ex. Up and had breakfast with Xmas songs on

I cooked the lunch and we exchanged gifts

Then out to see family

Back to watch TV whilst eating the quality street and having a tipple

This year. ... Very different

Seeing family and friends before the day and Xmas day volunteering at the care home.

Hoping to make a few dears smile xx

It's just me and my little ones for Xmas morning so they can open presents from me and play with them for a bit, then lunchtime we meet the family and a local pub/restaurant we've booked and eat. Then to my grandparents for presents from them, then to my mum's for more presents and we usually sleep there. Then boxing day at my dad's for Christmas with then

I've no idea how they do it either, we would have ours open before the first cuppa as kids.

I forgot Christmas Eve!! I consider that the magical day, no matter how old my kids get we still track the big man!!

I usually work in the morning then come home, it's a good feeling in the house, around 4 we shall go to christingle at the church, always gets me happy seeing the kids singing away in a manger in their jumpers, head home for cheese and biscuits and then later on my parents come over with presents and when the youngest is in bed we leave the two eldest up with them, while we head to the pub for Christmas Eve disco and karaoke with some friends

Hoping to spend the weekend before with someone special working Tuesday Wednesday Thursday then a nice Xmas eve (might see if I can stay at my mums) then help cook Xmas dinner pig out get fat get d*unk pick up my kids then home maybe to my dads Boxing Day drop the kids off Monday back to work Tuesday

About 3 days before Xmas I drop stuff of at basics bank for local families

This year I am trying to get a donation of books

Xmas eve I drop son of at station to go to his mums

Xmas day I ring or visit people that want company that are alone at Xmas . A t 3 pm I get son from his mums then we have father son time

I would urge all of those that don't have family or people to buy for to buy some stuff for the basics bank it's only a few £

Working Christmas Eve as I have an important meeting with police regarding on going cases, hopefully that will end around 2 then go home and get ready for Christmas Day where my parents are coming up and invited to other strays in to celebrate with us....I think for me Christmas has lost its magic as I get older I love it but every year it never feels the same when you are single and have no kids.

Christmas eve everyone over for meat and potatoes pie.

Christmas morning presents then bacon butties. Kids play while we cook and get ready. Kids get ready family arrives. Dinner about 2. Then a buffet from 6 mainly home made stuff I bake alot lol. Between eating games and quizzes charades and anything silly. At some point we will go for a half hour walk and look at all the house lit up

kids get us up about 6 ish,do stockings on our bed then down to open presents.go to see grandson about 8 am to see him open his then home. Mark takes dogs out to beach with kids while I start lunch.Lunch about 3, then leftovers available with crusty breads and various pickles if anyone wants it.then tv or games with the kids. then bed for a BJ. Christmas will never ever be as great as it was when I was a child. Making stockings out of pillow cases and decorating them. Making up the tree. Making paper chains having Christmas parties at school and sometimes winning the best Christmas decorated table. Actually believing in Santa and thinking I really did here his bells one year. Leaving out mince pies and carrots, writing Santa a letter. Sneaking down early and peeking inside the wrapper of some Christmas presents.

Loved Christmas when the kids were little, they always had a stocking at the end of the bed filled with small toys and chocolate which they opened at whatever time they woke up.. Once they had convinced me 5am was a good time to get up we would all head down stairs and open the big presents under the tree together

Never understood people who had rules regarding what you could open when, that just seems cruel! Only rule was we all got up together, just so I could see the look on their faces when they got the presents they really wanted

Nowadays I'm the one up early trying to convince a 17 22 & 25 year old to get out of bed because I want to open my presents!

We'll track Father Christmas until he's near Paris (if the children can stay awake). They'll be up about 6 am,presents opened,some kind of breakfast,play for a bit,eat some chocolate from their sweet stockings. All over to my other daughter's for present exchange and dinner. After dinner the kids go off and make use of their presents while the adults wash up and crack open the alcohol. In the evening the games come out and we open the sweet tins and drink some more alcohol. There will be music,games,DVDs and a lot of laughter on Christmas day for my family. People pop in as and when they want and get fed and watered.

Talking about tracking Santa, does anyone know if the International Space Station is near this year? The past 2 years it has been magical going outside on Christmas Eve and watching Father Christmas fly over in his sleigh.

Lovely cooked breakfast, presents opened and off to relatives to sing happy birthday to Jesus. And eat more. Drink flowing, people gathered from around the world, some games and more gifts. No turkey. Or mince pies, crackers.

Christmas has changed since my son was a child and now is more about quality time with both sides of the family. However my nephews and niece are still kids so there's more focus on them now.

So Christmas Day will be with all of them this year at their Grandma's while Boxing Day will be spent with my Mum, Dad and Sister and I'll be cooking

We go to the children's service with my in-laws on Xmas eve & take gifts for the Women's Refuge.

When my dad was still alive. We'd wait everyone to wake up and my nan would of stayed over too. We all sit together and my mum would hand a present out each. There's be Christmas music in the background. Then we'd have egg and bacon for breakfast. Then we'd watch home alone 2 lost in new York as that was my dad's favourite Christmas film.

Then we'd have Christmas dinner round about 3pm then we'd have our mince pies and custard about 2 hours later then we have turkey sandwiches about 9 and play cards
