I wouldn't recommend them ladies, thought I'd found a kinder alternative to acrylics and really liked the way the gels looked but fuck me, what a ball ache trying to get it off and nails are ruined, brittle and peeling!

So it's a thumbs down from me, just thought I'd share!

Whenever I have gel nails it's just another form of nail varnish, just thicker and longer lasting. Can have the option to have acrylics on first, but I never do

Nah you're looking trimmer again in this new pic with the tartan skirt, arms look slimmer as well. Women have much higher bodyfat percentage then men and baring in mind a woman needs to get down to at least 18% before she has visible ab definition. Without seeing your bare belly and bottom it's hard to estimate, totally rough guess would put you around 25%

That's good, you've got some knockers left despite the weight loss and boobs are primarily made up of fat so you have to take those into account. If you went to any gym they'd get callipers out and measure you properly, but for our kind of height 25% is good.

When you see female fitness models with very defined abs they would be between 14-18% lower than that would be stage ready body builder women usually with fake boobs as they literally have no fat left on them.

They're really no better than acrylics, they fuck up your nails in exactly the same way. You're best off getting a treatment oil to try and help your nails grow out, and buffing out the damage from the removal.

Gel nail polish, however, is great.

Ooh, can I sidetrack it a bit more and ask for my body fat percentage, too?

PS- I've never gotten anything done to my nails besides a regular paint. Long nails make playing basketball difficult.

I had gel nails back in June and had them removed 3 weeks later. My natural nails are fucked basically and keep breaking whenever I get a little bit of length going. They've never been like that and I miss having natural long nails now

Even my ex used to say gel nails aren't good for your nails! You have to give them a few days with nothing on them after having gels for a week or 2

I like gel nails when they're on but I do have to give my nails a break for a couple of weeks afterwards. The only time mine grow long anyway is when the gel stuff is on, so I'm not really losing much by having them short when it's soaked off.

I've never had gel nails. I've terrible nails naturally but I've found that since i changed jobs my nails have grown really well. I do have to have Nail varnish on all the time though. I use a Nail strengthener all the time even if i have no colour. That seems to help.

I do Gel Nails for some clients of mine. I highly reccommend having a break for a couple of weeks after having Gel on them.

As said above by someone, buff them and use oil treatment.

Seawitch- it's not a bugger to get off if you soak them long enough, it scrapes off easy with the correct tool

Last time I was getting a manicure ,a lady next to me was getting her gel nails removed.She had to get her thumb nail cut right down as something had getting between her gel nail and caused an infection.Really put me off getting them again. Stick to manicures and gel nail varnish from know on and more healthy for nails .Doesn't take top layer of nail off like gel nails do .

Yeah they are pretty much fucked I take them off for a month every 3 months but they are not great I will pay for it when I'm older

It depends on the skill and attention of the manicurist. I had gel nails for years with no issues when they were soaked off and no breakage if I left them off.

Then my manicurist retired and it's take a long time and some very poor sets of nails to find anyone similar.

A few pointers:

AVOID anywhere that uses the electric drill thing, it's too aggressive and they can't feel what they're doing to your nail.

If they don't have a drawer full of nail files and blocks with varying degrees of wear walk away. An experienced person will use different ones at different stages.

If they're not prepared to resoak your nails to get the gel off insist - forcing it will damage your nails. If your repeat business isn't worth her taking a bit longer then don't bother.

FINALLY - Chinese salons who offer powder gel... it's not gel it's acrylic powder. Just say no!

I have acrylic nail extensions. Been having it done on and off for over a year. When I have a break from it, which isn't often my nails don't take long to recover with a bit of tlc.

I wouldn't be without my nails now, they look so much nicer than my ordinary nails. In my profession I think it's important to have nice hands and nails. Nothing worse than being served by someone with chipped nail varnish and mankie nails. I get lots of compliments on my nails

I'm old school I just have a drawer full of nail polish and a few bottles of nail polish remover. I rarely paint them only on nights out or on meets for here.

I didn't have the electric file just a buff of my nails then cuticles pushed back with wooden orange stick with a rubber but on the end. Didn't have powder gel had the base coat then under the lamp then the gel nail polish and under the lamp then another coat and under the lamp then on the ring finger where I had glitter I had another coat ten under the lamp then the top coat sealer and under the lamp then the conditioning spray thing wipes over with cotton wool. Looked fantastic but after almost 2 weeks the glitter started to peel on the side so I peeled it off and then tried getting the rest off which resulted in me peeling the top layer of my nail off!

I would never use gel on my finger nails I am so lucky to have tough natural nails.

I do get a gel paint on toes twice a year lasts forever and as i just let it grow out my nails are not bad.
