At school I asked a science teacher what fire - a flame - is made of?

He didn't told me it was a stupid question. Never did work that one out...

What you perceive to be a flame - that colour/ shape/ etc, is the production of light (and heat) due to the oxidation of whatever is burning.

So, it's "made" of gases, if you want to get technical, but actually, made of nothing, really. lol

I used to wonder this as a kid too.
