I'd like to start a book this evening ...I'm looking for something gripping, something immersive that'll make me forget the gloominess outside, something that mesmerises and most importantly something that has a satisfying ending....

Any suggestions..?

Hmmm.... Not his best. Although the fact that the action all takes place in a small space (the bed) is a clever ploy on what has happened to the lady. All very restrictive

Scary? Try reading 'Jaws' by Peter Benchley.

If you like crime. ..Jo Nesbo is pretty good as is Mark Billingham. The latter is a less challenging read, both authors are good though.

I actually really enjoyed Gerald's Game! Jessie's one of King's strongest female characters - including Beverley Marsh - IMO.

The Cider House Rules has just come on the television. I remember reading it and being engrossed. I can't remember if it had a happy ending though.

11-22-63 probably the best book I've ever read. I have currently refused to read any other book as I had such a connection with the characters and story. It's by Stephen King btw and it's not a horror.

I've just finished the Hunger Games trilogy...very readable and much better than the films.

Martina Cole is always a great bet for gripping, gritty crime (The Take being a particular favourite).

I'm also a lover of Jodi Piccoult. While slightly softer, they are thought provoking and often make you think "what would you do" (19 Minutes looks into a school shooting, Lone Wolf is a fascinating look at organ donation and wolf pack!)

And for pure childish escapism you can't beat Harry Potter!

Can't remember the author but. The art of driving in the rain. Excellent read. Not a book i would have ever looked at. Was a book talked about by Clare Boulding on a book programme said on of the best books she had read. I really enjoyed it

Try Life is Local by Des McAnulty a new author who's next book will go stratospheric and life is local is a great first book The next book due out soon is a love story set in an alternate reality where everyone is gay and a man and woman fall in love
