Hotpoint tumble dryers

It you have one it might be worth checking on the Hotpoint website site to see if it needs a replacement part. This applies to those built between April 2004 and October 2015 . Quite a few house fires have been caused by these dryers .

I have always put faith in Hotpoint appliances and have five dryers in various different locations .

Not everyone appears to appreciate the risk that dryers can pose . I have noticed tenants sometimes use them and make no effort to clean out the filters . I have even noticed someone use them to dry one pair of underpants ..I often wonder if people were paying the bills themselves , would they be so wastefull.

We have a candy tumble dryer at work. It caught fire last week. It was the fluff filter, so it would appear someone didn't clean it out!!!

My tumble dryer is quite old but I Hoover it out regularly and never leave it on over night or when I go out

We clean the filter after every use or two.

If they is a defective part and its registered to the address when you bought it, chances are you'll receive a letter letting you know.

We had one letter come through and it had instructions on where to find the model number and then check that against a list of ones that were being recalled.

Liskeard

Checked mine, it's one of the faulty ones, but it only gets used maybe 1-2 times a month in the winter. And cleared after use.

I've registered it on line though and awaiting further instructions.

Indesit and another brand are also under this threat, it states on the hotpoint link.

They can't send a letter as people move and not all register their dryer.

Currently waiting for them to get back to us as ours is one of the affected machines.

Scary stuff because we quite often go out & leave it on!

Hopefully it'll get sorted soon as its a pain having to dry stuff on the radiators.

have hotpoint issued a recall? Which is the norm if a pattern has developed of a fault in an appliance or a part within which has been identified as the primary cause in several fires..

i would never leave a tumble dryer on if no one at home..

No they say someone will come out to amend the problem. However, just to receive a phone call to discuss the matter takes up to 5 weeks

I used to build them when Hotpoint was a British firm. We always urged customers to clean the filters .

Now its an Italian company machines are built in eastern Europe .

They are part of Merloni , indicit and ariston

Nothing is made to last anymore, it's a consumer society so things have to break so the ccompanies can keep raking in the profits... A new iPhone comes out regularly, nothing wrong with the previous one, but it's a competitive market and need to keep up with the Jones's

I checked on their website last week. Mine is affected too.

Bought it brand new 2 years ago. Always clean out the fluff compartment after every use. (It's great for stuffing inside empty toilet roll holders & using it as firefighters to start our open fire)

It started smelling of smoke a couple of weeks ago. Not used it since. Was going to put it out for the scrap man & luckily I came across their Facebook post. Waiting on an engineer coming out now.

You don't realise how much you need your dryer until you can't use it! My house looks like a laundrette atm!

April 2004? Seriously?

In the past I've had a couple of Hotpoint washers or dryers and I've never had one last even a year. I always avoid Hotpoint/Indesit like the plague now.

Maybe I've been unlucky, but when one brand has proved unreliable to me and others don't (I would agree with the 5 year average for any other brand) I avoid that brand.

I've got the hotpoint Aquarius range. When the engineer was fixing my washer he saw my dishwasher and told me it had a recall on it! Now my tumble dryer is a risk. I clean the filter every time and I pull out the box and use a metal skewer to clean it often. I'm thinking Bosch (assuming it is actually a different manufactor) range next time though. Hotpoint seems to have had nothing but drama

I'm watching this morning and it seems the message about this hasn'ts been well publicised at all, hotpoint (owned by whirlpool) have only had one advert in the press in November,

The piece had a guy on who's dryer caught fire last week...

They've refused to come on the show .. It seems they don't want the bad publicity instead of looking after their customers well being...

Terrible way to treat it's customers

We registered our drier for repair with Hotpoint quite a few weeks ago. We had an email from them telling us of the problem and asking us to register for repair.

We got an email this week with a link to check when the repair would be and on that link was the offer to buy a new £299 drier for £99, free delivery, installation and removal of the old one. Our drier is about 7 years old - our new one arrives tomorrow - result.

I bought one. But was delivered with revisions in place taken 2 visits and 4 weeks to get door sill replaced which ripped in 10 days. To add to it i really do not like it and not suitable in design for my needs. £300 I cant even get £200 on it might have to reduce it more. Hotpoint customer services are appauling to gave up ringing as engaged all the time. So complained by email. Service tech both good though. But never again. Back to beko once sold this one

just changed both our Hotpoint washing machine lasted 12 years and only had them out once and the tumble dryer was 20 years old..

trouble is with white goods is most of them are now chucked together using cheap components made in China and other places..

went for a Bosch dishwasher last year and ended up with a Siemens, Bosch are no longer made in Germany but in eastern Europe somewhere..

Hi sceptical We're very happy. The original link gave an estimated repair date of February but also gave the opportunity to buy a new one at 33% of the retail price. The repair would have been free of charge but replacing a 7 year old drier that has become noisy when running with a more efficient brand new model for £99 was a no brainer.
