For the last year Sue and I reading material has been dominated by Scandinavian crime novels.

Stig Larsson; The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy .

Henning Mankell; The Wallander series

Jo Nesbo...the Snowman in particular is a chilling read.

We would thoroughly recommend any of the above for fans of crime/ thriller novels.

Undoubtedly at some point.

It was a great insight into the minds of Scandinavian writers, a fair few were 'talking heads' on it. Interesting to see how they _iewed themselves, they all for example reckon Norway has been changed by oil money, before it was am agragrarian economy with subsistence farming, and the oil $$$ is reckoned to have corrupted their society.

And the Swedes, known in the 70's for 'free love' and 'shexy movies' etc are adamant that it wasnt like that atall if you lived there, it was just their censorship laws made soft porn production viable for export.

Also a big bit on Larrson & his campaigning journalism, which had the far right after him with baseball bats.

The things you learn...

The whole Larsson thing does invite conspiracy theories; I was considering looking into it but I decided I had better things to do with my time.

There is no doubt that most Scandinavian art is....stark, for the want of a better word. It must have something to do with the extreme weather and lack of sunlight.
