How did the world stay sane without a mobile phone and the internet?

I'm in the middle of no where and just missed my bus, got 28 mins you wait for the next one.

I guess we had Walkmans, and if there was someone else in the queue, we could listen to "the bleed" from someone else's walkman

Books?

When I was younger and didn't have the internet or a cell phone I used to keep a book tucked in the waistband of my pants. Everywhere I went.

Now I keep my kindle in my bag. Always

I always have a book in my handbag, plus numerous ebooks on my phone. Be prepared.
