Of on a family skiing trip next year and want to video all the action on the slopes. Have been looking at go pro cameras but notice there are many much cheaper generic ones on the market. Has anybody any experience of the cheaper ones or could anybody reccomend any.

Careful of cheaper ones, sometimes batteries don't cope well in cold temperatures.

I have a GoPro which I use for skiing. It lasts a good few hours and the footage is good quality

Go pro is the best on the market IMO. I've used mine for loads of different things, excluding skiing but never had any issues and the footages is decent quality.

I'm sure I saw a Black Friday ad with the Go Pro mentioned. Can't remember the store now though. Maybe Curry's?

I have an SJ4000 and it's great. Just as good quality as the gopro but at a fraction of the price. Only downside is that the battery didn't last as long as the gopro but will still do about 90 mins.

I took a GoPro 3 on my trip across America, amazing quality and even really good at just photos.

Cheaper versions usually are cheaper because of something like battery life, build quality.

Look at DRIFT cameras from action cameras, good alternative option.

I have a GoPro hero it was the cheapest they made this time last year.

It's been mountain biking road cycling

Swimming snorkelling and sailing and works pretty well. It's 720p not 1080

Battery life is fine but you can't remove it so that might be a problem if your filming for a long time. I have had well over 2 hours out of it tho.

Alternative action cameras....some are ok others like mentioned earlier are cheaper for a reason.

If used for a skiing trip I'd go with the go pro. (I have one myself) I've often been skiing in temperatures of -30 and below and my go pro handles that fine.

Eagerly waiting for the release of the lilly drone though....that's gonna knock all sports cameras out of the ocean

I have a DRIFT cam, basic model 720p but they go up in price & spec from £150 to past gopro prices.

Replaceable batteries which is really useful, & has different mounting options to gopro systems. Has the Bluetooth options etc so well worth looking at.

Have a look at the action cam on ee It looks a pretty good little camera and not a bad deal

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

While I'm happy with my GoPro, I've yet to see a bad review of the sj4000.

If I was to get a second, I'd probably try that.
