I have had a small dog now for 3 years house trained and it's a great dog. But the last week or so it keeps weeing in the room I keep it in. Its very strange I Iet her out before bed and last night after 20 minutes of being up stairs I came down for a drink and it had done it again any advice would be very much appreciated

If there's no medical problem then I'd say s/he is either scared or anxious.

Has anything spooked her in the last couple of weeks, fireworks etc as that may have made her more nervous at certain sounds?

If not then may be worth a trip to the vet in case of something like a uti or infection causing her to be unable to control her bladder?

Check for urine infection first, next anything else changed at home

It's getting cold now, might be the cold making it need a wee. Make sure they've got a warm bed, and glad to see you're gonna rule out infection too.

Could be attention seeking

Maybe 'it' (sorry couldn't resist) does not like being alone, maybe put her bed in your room she may settle better

But I mean, if you are keeping it in a room/extension, don't you think she might be lonely in there? Maybe she is peeing because they are lonely, or being defiant. Maybe she wants your attention and this is a good way to get it? Maybe she wants exercise? I dunno, just a few guesses.

Dogs are pack animals, so if s/he is being left alone for long periods of time I'm not surprised it's unhappy.

If your complaining about the £20 it's going to cost you to see the vet maybe having a dog is not best suited to you.

I'm guessing urinary tract infection.

My indoor dog used to only come in as far as the kitchen, but my ex kept letting it further in and now the only place it doesn't go is in the bedroom. I don't like having dogs in carpeted areas to be honest.

My others are kenneled outside and I'm not sure I'd have another who comes in the house.

I am not complaining as she is insured if the cost get to much. But I have never had a bill from a vet for less than £50 they like to make there money that's for sure

The indoor dog is a pet and is currently sat on my sofa next to me...I feel that one you let these habits develop, its hard to undo them, so I don't bother (plus he's old now), but were I to have another indoor dog, it wouldn't happen - I don't see any reason to have dogs in the house, pets or not, the hair is a pain and the dog doesn't benefit anything from it, it's not people. As long as its biological needs are being met (and this includes companionship, it is a pack animal after all).

The outdoor dogs are working collies and you'd have to be nuts to let one in your house (I have to say, I've not met many collies who are better off indoors, they can be themselves more outside).

Many vets see small animal stuff as where the money is to be made, sadly. I've always found it odd that I can buy antibiotics for/inject any number of livestock under my care with no real problem, but I can't do it for my dog.

If it's a female then another cause of weeing might be due to hormones.

Depends on age of the dog and whether it's been spayed.

I'm a total softie... I'd have them all in the house but our dog didn't shed hair so we never had a problem with it.

Working dogs are just that so I totally get that they live out in kennels. I know a guy with a collie and he's the cleverest dog I've ever met. He lives indoors but won prizes at crufts so that's unsurprising.

That is not bad, the cheapest vet visit has been 70 quid, she is a 3.5 year old shih tsu rescue dog.
