Help with computer

CHESTER

Evening is there any computer whizz out there who could help. We have our laptop which has all our play photos and videos as well as lots of personal photos and it appears windows has some sort of issue and we just keep seeing a blue screen advising of a problem with windows. Obviously we can't go to pc world!! Ha!! So hoping someone would be able to assist??!! Any help is greatly appreciated

There's a button you can hold down during bootup to get into the setup - may be able to trigger Safe mode?

At least there used to be. This isn't helping much, sorry

The 'blue screen of death' as i sometimes call if its the one i am thinking... cud be time to get a new one.. but if you know someone ask them to take a look... but be careful it it contains alot of personal items on it

Ahh the blue screen of death.

"A fatal error the computer could not recover from"

Could be a number of things.

Changed anything on the computer?

Could be overheating

The list goes on....

Have had the same problem, I had to reset the computer, if you do the reset make sure you click on the 'keep files and folders' reset.

You'll lose any programs you've installed buy it won't lose any files, pics etc .

Hope that helps in someway

Chances are windows update has installed an updated driver your pc doesnt like if its just started doing this recently. You need to use system restore to turn the pc back to a date before the blue screens started. This wont delete anything but will roll any changes back to their previous condition.

OK so when turn it on says

A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer

This is on a blue screen

Nothing has been recently installed on it - we just want the photos and videos off it as obviously they are great memories!!

All help appreciated!

These are horrible computer problems.. there are recovery or restore steps to take. It you can get on the net.. search the error you are getting...sorry couldnt help much more.. its one of those.. try this...try that problem...

If it wont even start your hard drive may be corrupted. If so a full windows reinstall might be your only option but thats a full wipe out

Bit late now but never have files and photos which you value without a back up. Disk storage is so cheap these days. If you had a back up you could do a system restore and still have all your pics on another devise. But as I say a bit late now.

But to add to the above as you are on here then you must have Internet access through another device so Google the error message for ways to deal with it. You may be able to copy the files off using a command function unless the hard disk has died.

Ok, here we go.

You get the blue screen, which suggess the PC recognises the hard disk.

But you can double check this by going into the bios, and checking your hard disk is in list Of disks/devices.

Now to get into bios, you need to do the following.

1) switch on.

2) as soon as it starts booting hit F2 or F8 (this key varies according to actual laptop).

This will confirm your hardware is ok, and it's a Sodtware issue.

Now you probably have a repair disk, tucked away somewhere. Dig it out. Cos you may need it - irrespective of win10 having been installed.

So check you can get into bios, and when you confirm this- you will then have to change a setting so it will read from your repair disk.

If that scares you, some people don't like changing settings - just stick your repair disk in laptop and restart. Laptop usually read the cd disk on start up anyway

Take the hard drive out and use a caddy and connect to another pc, take off all ur photos etc then wipe drive

Put another copy of Windows on

This pos I'm on now has done this in the past. This drastic action worked;

Take out the power plug and the battery, leave it to cooldown, battery and power back in and if it goes into the black screen with safe mode/manual/disck check options select start windows normally (if it doesn't it's well fucked).

After this I went through disc clean-ups, scans etc. to see if any bugs.

its not the end of your computer, google how to start your model/make up in safe mode. from there you can then recover your files and recover the system. Do you have a start-up disk or the rescue disk? if not you can get someone to copy one for you. If you do decide to throw it away, keep the hard drive as you can still recover files from the hard disk.

If you have another pc download something like Ubuntu Linux and put it on DVD or USB.

google "Try Ubuntu before you install it"

With the disk in when the PC restarts it will give you a window like desktop ( but nothing to do with windows)

Now you can browse your files and copy them off....

then you can either wipe the machine if you see fit.. (now you have removed your files)

Be care of taking it to repair shops if personal info is present.

as the person above has mentioned you can get your files off but you need to download a windows live disc

blue screen of death as most know of it you've lost some driver and by the looks of it its the boot sequence of your hard drive that you've lost

I use ultimate boot cd and a few others

things you need is a cd to burn the image onto it a usb stick or some sort of memory card or usb external hard drive to transfer files to

and set your laptop to boot from the cd some wont then you have to use 2 usb sticks

there is an image that you can get of ultimate boot cd Current release: V5.3.5 598mb size

you can repair most things with this disc including your mbr which is your master boot record

but this disc and others can gain you access back into your hard drive and transfer files from it before you format and renew your disk image

query though how old is your hard drive in the laptop as its only used tops of 2-3 years before a new one is required
