On the organ donation list.....if not why not?....Understand some are unable to but too many are dying due to lack of people not registered. Your thoughts?

I agree with this that way all those that don't register just because they never get round to it will be registered and those that are really against it will make sure they are taken off. It makes much more sense. I am on the register.

Both are here,done it recently after seeing a good freind finally getting a lung transplant recently.

Didn't realise they only had 4 hours from getting them out to them having to be inthe recipient. They started taking his out before the new ones had left the other hospital in London

Im with you on that and im on the list too. Id love to be able to help others live or have a better quality of life in the event of my pre-certain death.

I agree. For a lot of people they just don't get around to it or think of it. Whereas people who def don't want to be will make sure they aren't.

They can have anything they want when I go. I don't need it!

Yes. Will not need it when I am dead. Someone else might though. Mind you, not sure if anything other than my lungs and corneas will be any good by then. I have made good use of it all for over half a century.

She said she'd donate her organs. I said they could have whatever was left of me that was still working, except for the corneas - have a bit of a thing about my eyes.

She shot back:

Yep. They can take what they want if it's any use to anyone and I've made sure my family are really clear that I'll be coming back to haunt them if they try to go against my wishes on this one. Having been at the funeral this week of someone who died at 55 waiting for transplant, I wish more people would get over themselves and sign up to donate.

I'm on the register though they may still decide that they don't want mine cos of health issues I've had.

I can't give blood any longer but funnily enough I can still give bone marrow, though only with full disclosure.

Look at bone marrow donation people, it's uncomfortable but a lifesaver but if you're not on the register you can't be matched.

I'm no longer able to give blood due to the meds I take for a medical condition so I'm not entirely sure if I can be an organ donor anymore, should really check. If I can still be then they can take what they want out of me b

It depends on the cancer too. You can't give blood again but you can be considered for organ donation and bone marrow donation after certain types of cancers as long as you're in remission.

For organ donation you have to have been in remission for five years.

I can't give blood but I can be considered as an organ donor and as a bone marrow donor. It's worth checking.

Often those of us who have spent large amounts of time in and around hospitals have seen the good donation can do up close.

Basically you need t be brain dead to donate. Victims of trauma and massive strokes are the most common (bit not only) donors.

If you are a donor, you need to ensure that your next of kin know your wishes. Regardless of the card or being on the register they need to sign consent before the organs are harvested

I am on the organ donor register but not on the blood donor , since my stroke back in 2012 and being on blood thinning medication I am not allowed

but apparently my organs wont be affected by this

Told my family of my wishes but my eldest child isn't too keen on the idea .

Hopefully she will come round when its finally my time

Does the organ donation list have strict requirements like the blood donation?

Being totally honest the whole idea of having my organs pulled out makes me a little uneasy. Yes I'll be dead and none the wiser, but for some reason it just doesn't sit too well with me.

After having more blood tests than I care to remember over the past few months, I've come around to the idea that giving blood isn't scary (they wouldn't accept me anyway) but with organ donation I'm very much sat on the fence.
