So a scene from Homeland describing the situation in Syria has gone viral and is being held up by some as an accurate portrayal of the aims of ISIS.

Now I think Homeland is a totally brilliant series and no doubt very well researched, but should we be worried that people are taking as fact a scene from a fictional programme?

Some of the recent fictional programmes have been pretty prescient. Homeland and Madam Secretary come to mind.

I don't take them as fact though, merely an indication of how someone has written a view of the world.

For prescience, the pilot episode of a short-lived TV service called 'The Lone Gunmen' was truly frightening; given events 10 years later.

I didn't see that. Of course, prescience may just be the programme giving someone the idea...

Yes, and that is something I've always wondered in that specific case; given it was a plot to crash commercial airliners into the WTC made ten years before it actually happened.

Just bear in mind that if you are high average intelligence that most people won't be as bright as you. .

People easily get confused and also don't always think that deeply upon things - so arrive at some poor opinions too.
