Since the tragic events of Sharm and Paris have any of you changed you're mindset about things?

I've always been one that is impulsive, fly by the seat of my pants kind a girl and live for today.

I must admit though, I'm more apprehensive about getting on a plane at the moment.

Nope... when it's my time, it's my time. I'm not spending my life worrying about terrorists. Life is short enough as it is.

I do agree and have always thought that with past terror attacks.

I'm sure by next May I will be fine

Unfortunately so- I was looking at booking the panto and instead of booking in Birmingham I have chose one in a small town near by.

I'm contemplating avoiding the Birmingham Xmas market this year.

We were meant to go to Paris in April and we have changed our plans.

I know it's giving in to the terrorists but i want to protect my family as much as I can

I've kinda had over the past few months a live for it now attitude, when it comes to the safety of my kids things have changed slightly, like going to London for a school trip coming up, a lot of parents have cancelled. But with me, my motto is 'live for today, no regrets'

I was in Manchester the day the bomb went off. I remember being asked to leave the shop I was in and told to walk up to Piccalilly Gardens. Glad I did as shop was right in the blast.

So you never know when it's your time, just enjoy life as much as possible....Unless you're flying, I hate flying.

No. I have a trip away in a couple of weeks to a place which has been linked to the Paris attacks. I'm going to be between a big public event and at a big industry event with lots of Americans (two great targets there!).

I'm still going.

Of course be sensible and weigh up risks, but completely stop doing what you want to do and you've already stopped living.

I hate flying as it is, I feel more worried about getting on plane rather than walking the streets , at least I have the chance to run!

I'm already quite a cautious person and it's a few years since I would have even contemplated going to Egypt, Turkey or Tunisia, regardless of this year's events.

But that said, I'm buggered if I'm letting anyone spoil the trips I have coming up to cities within the UK and Europe, I will still be going and enjoying myself with all kind of western decadent desires, and terrorists can go fuck themselves.

My teen wanted us to book turkey for next year, I refused. Then she wanted Egypt again I refused. This was weeks ago, now she wants the canaries but I'm wondering if we are not better off just staying at home and doing long weekends away around our own treasures

I'm waiting to see how things progress and what happens in the next month or so before I let recent events influence holiday plans etc. That said we don't have trips to large cities or flights planned in the near future I might feel differently if we did.

I was due to go to Tunisia in sept, obviously all flights got cancelled, but I would have still gone. I have a turkey holiday booked in May, trip to Birmingham and a few trips to Cardiff that I'm not cancelling. I think if I had a Egypt holiday booked for next month, I probably wouldn't go

No trips to London with my grandchildren this year and no Shopping in Westfields or Lakeside shopping centres. I'm even dubious about going to Barking Town Centre. I'm not normally paranoid but when you know they are plotting and targeting these areas I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I'm not very good in the heat so places like Turkey, Tunisia & Egypt would never appear on my radar.

I do like a city break though and a few places have been crossed of the list for next year. They are all in Germany.

It won't inconvenience me much though as I'll go somewhere else instead.

I think it's the not being in control and not being able to see what's in front of me that makes me scared. Why is it on long haul flights do you just manage to open up your meal and it hits turbulence? Everytime I end up with something down me.

All this is almost on our doorstep but it does make me more alert of who i am around and its sad to say that as im not racist in any way shape or form. These sick people are in every country waiting and planning their next act of terror right under our noses and thats what makes it worse. We cant literaly go around checking every ethnic minority to see if they are carrying a bomb or guns its insane. And with my line of work being maintenance construction for airports and railways in wales and england im more alert than i have ever been in my life to be honest

We were mid way through our holiday in Jamaica when 9/11 happened......scariest flight we have ever been on....had to overcome our fears then, so this would not stop us getting on a flight and going abroad. Just stick to reasonably safe areas, nowhere is immune to terrorism these days. Ain't gonna let them ruin our fun xxxx

Yes they are witch makes it worse but i think people in general are more alert or scared really of the ethnic minority than the white people. I see examples of this everyday in work. Im not one for taring people with the same brush but this is what it will come down to because people are scared

There is a big difference between being scared and plain ignorant....if I was scared I wouldn't come to work on a daily basis as I work with a large number of different ethnicities...but I'm not scared and not ignorant let's not start tarring...

I was in NYC on 9/11 and when I was nervous about going on the subway my dad told me that I should never let fear dictate my life.

Marc and I bought tickets to Paris yesterday and will be going early next year. They need our support, not our fear.

Maybe. Maybe they are just ignorant. There are still places in the UK where you can go a month without seeing any variations in skin tone or accent.

Change to mindset takes multiple generations in these areas. My parents generation still calls thr Chinese takeaway and the corner shop by racist names. My kids know not to use those words and know that it's stupid old people thing (like smoking and eating crap processed food) because they don't know any better.

I would hope change happens a little more quickly in more diverse areas.

been evacuated from and witnessed over 30 odd bombs in my life, witnessed at least 15 shootings and still got up and went to school or work the next day..Most of the west has led a sheltered life so this kinda thing scares the bejesus outta them, the rest of the world deals with this sorta thing on a daily basis

I wouldn't say it's changed my mindset. Sure it's scary and saddening but I find I just try to blank it all out as much as possible. Think about it too much and you'll go crazy. I'd recommend people watch less news and read less newspapers. Their scaremongering doesn't help things either. Switch off the tv and go for a walk. Check out the wonders of nature. See the beauty that surrounds us all. Right there our doorsteps.

Those pathetic ignorant c**ts are just concerned with death and destruction. I'm focused on living and loving. I really haven't got time for their idiotic ways. Life's for living. We only get one shot at this thing.

Like everyone else, I'll live until I die. And whilst I am still breathing it will be on my terms, no one elses.

Visiting any Muslim country for a holiday has never really interested me, my brother has had holidays in Egypt and Tunisia, said he wouldn't go back again as both turned out to be rubbish holidays anyway. Now with events in recent years just not worth the risk. If I want sun, sea and sand I'll stick with Spain, Greece, Cyprus or any number of other European destinations like I have always done in the past.

Went on holiday to Weymouth on the south coast of England this year though and got just as good a suntan as going abroad. Will happily go anywhere in the UK and I still intend to do my Xmas shopping In Birmingham this Christmas.

So you disagree that there's a generational aspect to knowledge, understanding and beliefs?

Or you disagree that casual racism has a generational aspect?

Or you disagree that those generational aspects are changing with each new generation?

Or you disagree to which an area of the UK is open or closed to new people speeds or slows that generational change?

No, not at all.

I grew up during the troubles, so you heard of another bombing every other day. I was never complacent, just knew if it had my name on it, there was nothing I could do.

To keep it short yes.

You're parents generation is a large group made up of many different view points, saying that generation still uses racist names is what I would call stereotyping big time.

Your parents may do it, it does not mean they and their friends are a representation of the whole generation.
