I know there are loads of different people and backgrounds on here.....I've been offered a bit of an opportunity and I wondered..... Has anyone ever taught English as a Foreign Language?

What was it like? Would you say it was a worthwhile experience? How did you use the skills afterwards?

I've had a fair few friends go off to China, Italy and Barcelona in recent years to teach English, the first one went off to China for a year ten years ago and only came back two years ago!, he absolutely loved it, the other two have only recently gone but I know it has turned their lives around helping others

That be said, the one that has just returned found living back over here a struggle and couldn't find any work, he wishes to go back (for job reasons and to see his missus)

It's definitely worth looking into, but to get established, you'd be better doing the TEFLA course (Teaching English as a Foreign Language Abroad) or the CEFL course (Certificate for teaching English as a Foreign Language) then going abroad to teach English in schools for awhile, then you can go independent with those qualifications and experience"
Very early stages, but a Chinese company is offering to put me on the course and have me out there by Chinese New Year (which is late January, I believe)...

Definitely do your TEFL or equivalent first, especially if they're offering. It's then transferable. Everyone I know who's done it has loved it and travelled to all sorts of interesting places.
