I know this is a contentious subject, But I have just found out my cousin has just done this, and family fuckwits aside! As I don't like how we found out! FACEBOOK!

I don't know why I am posting this apart from the fact I am so angry and can't understand how families are so fucked up? Or the rational are other families as fucked up as mine?

Try thinking of others and being supportive rather than being angry about how you found out.

Someone is dead. A lot of people are going to be affected.

my condolences for you're loss of a family member OP...

may I ask if there were any prior signs that you're cousin before they sadly took away their own life was suicidal etc? like were they going for treatment/therapy etc?...

I ask because sometimes there are signs before hand and people recognise them but sometimes there isn't and the problems sadly build up till the person is so withdrawn and sad that even the simplest of things in life such as old hobbies, going out or even eating meals seems like a choir and unwanted..

People have a desperate need to be the first to share news on facebook. Too many people don't stop to think of the consequences of sharing things like this before family's know. It must be a horrible way to find out

Suicide is an awful thing. It ruins lives. It's a long term solution to a short term problem.

I can understand why you're angry, but just for a second, imagine what your family are going through. Along with the grief of losing a loved one, they're probably guilt ridden too.

Cut them some slack. Yeah, Facebook is a shitty way to find out, but put yourself in their shoes.

my ex GF ex hubby committed suicide; there were signs, but sometimes people don't pick up on it until too late. he went around family and friends giving possessions away, acting out of character, saying goodbye and how he loved them. Very sad, and a pity for me and my ex to have been part of, as it messed her life up, our relationship was always tainted by it. We all experience lows, but hard to imagine just how low if you see these measures as the only way of escape.

Oh that's so sad, I'm so very sorry for your loss.

People turn to what feels familiar and comforting when in great need, and I guess Facebook provides a comfort blanket for many many people these days. Try not to judge how your family excercises their grief.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you and your family are ok.

As for the facebook thing, it is upsetting. However, when my dad died, I still remember my mother asking me to call everyone because she simply couldn't bring herself to do it. I had a hard time doing it too, but I couldn't say no to her. The reactions of the people I told were some of my weakest moments. Facebook would have seemed like a relief to me, to be honest.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Big hugs. There could be the possibility that in their grief, they did not think it through. Especially the case with social media on mobile technology. However, there's no way of being able to broach the topic in a way that would not be deemed selfish by your family, which is unfortunate as it's not really fair to post it on Facebook in such a way either

I know what you mean. My mother was taken ill abroad, and I had to ring round family. The first one was massively draining, I only had about a dozen to do.

That said, there's no way on earth I'd have used anything other than person to person comms.

Sorry for your loss. Hearing via Facebook cannot of been easy, but having to phone everyone individually is very stressful to do. Maybe in their grief your family could not cope and went for the easiest and quick option. My thoughts are with you and your family. Xx

I know two people who have done this and both were depressives one hung himself from a light fitting for his much younger flat mate to find him ,the other was was a woman and she gassed herself for her son to find her

People don't really talk anymore. How often do we seen a bunch of friends/families sitting together but each one are busy with their own mobile-phone/ipads/notes.

Physically they are there but their mind and emotion are somewhere else.

Suicide is a very difficult thing to reconcile, the Facebook mania to be the first to broadcast is sick. I won't use Facebook and this is one reason.
