Yeah - pastry free quiche from Atkins - bake it and you've got six days breakfasts ready made to heat in a microwave.

And Galettes from the Dukan diet - bran, 0% creme fraiche and an egg and they're just like pancakes!! Result!!

Yea, cauli can be used instead of spuds - roasted, mashed, riced.....boring but very useful.

So far my meals are (mostly for work)

Large salad topped with, 3 hard boiled eggs chopped up, 1 whole chicken Breast chopped up, some chorizo chopped up.

And just dressed with oil.

1 smaller salad with a whole tin of tuna and some mayo.

I've found ommletes to be a good filler bacon and cheese etc.

I've also found the bag of frozen stir fry veg for a quid from farm foods are good combined with meat for a quick meal (burgers with no bun as large meat balls basically)

Seen some good egg bake recipes that I mean to try out.

Vegs plus some left over meat or bacon pour over load so beaten eggs and bake (is this a quiche?)

Got some nuts for snacks and going to make some beef jerky for snacking on again too.

Thing is every "quick" food tends to be carb heavy.

Also what are people doing for desert? I'm using protein shake blended with milk and frozen blueberries as a sort of thick smoothie (comes out like McDonald's milkshake consistencey) as my sweet spot hitter but could do with some more ideas.

You're gonna be heartily sick of damsons then. At least it should counteract the *ahem* effects of codeine

Or steak,

roast lamb,

Pork belly,

gammon,

chicken,

Duck,

Rabbit,

There's lots of meat it's just bulking out a meal without bread pasta rice or potatoes or other carb heavy products is a little tricky.

Sauces seem to be a key sufferer because they usually make heavy use of sugars

Unless its for a quick fix or medical reasons a low carb diet won't help you lose weight and keep it off.

Only diet that is proven to work is eat less calories and burn more calories with excersise.

Helps if you cut sugars and fats out as much as possible and eating a breakfast to wake your stomach up helps a lot aswell.

Unfortunately even although I know all this I don't stick to it I love chocolate xxx

For some people fruit sugars will ruin everything. I use sugar free Jelly and 0% Yoghurt flavoured with vanilla extract and Splenda.

Again, Atkins do good but expensive treats for cravings. Your frozen shake is a great idea - I might play with that!! Be aware milk contains a lot of sugar though - you might want to play with almond milk.

Sometimes U.K

Cauli mash with cream and whole grain mustard mashed in is a twice weekly favourite of mine.

Spinach is a great low carb veg.

After 5-7days you'll notice a less bloated stomach and feel much more energised.

There are plenty of books to find on the subject with recipe advice.

Good Luck

i pretty much eat low card although not the high fat bit.

for the most part i just swap veg for any pasta, potatoes etc

for fruit i stick to berries as they are the lowest in carb (i believe).

Cauli rice is good....Cauli pizza base is not!!!!

Fats are quite essential for a healthy diet they should make up at least 30% of your daily calories.

I like the physique I get with low carb (black and white topless pic on my profile) diets.

And I'm not really looking for weight loss or gain I'm just wanting a long term consistent diet that is a little healthier.

Anything low fat will have added sugar, if you low carb, you need to get your energy from fat.

My auntie used to make a baked egg dish which I loved as a kid

Shallow pyrex dish. Crack 3 eggs into it, cover with cheese & milk. Season and then bake in the oven.

Alternatively, make an omelette

i know at least one lady on here who disagree with you on your first point!

Personally i find it quite hard to stick to but i know of a lot of diabetics who have substantially improved the control of their blood glucose levels by maintaining a low carb diet and lost a lot of weight through it.

This is a common misconception. I'm nine years of barely eating 20g of carbs a day and it's life saving. I'm eight stones lighter and I'm fitter and healthier now than when I was in my 30's.

They do providing you don't make them too wet!

I try not to add too much milk, and if I use tomatoes only they outer part rather than the juice etc.

I'm really into goats cheese atm so I do red onion and goats cheese which are yummy.

Or I use the red onion chuckney I made in the bottom and when turned out makes a little top.

Don't use bacon makes it wet!

I also eat sweet potatoes rather than normal potatoes. If like a winter warmer a shepherds pie I use swede not potato.

I very rarely eat pasta, or rice but my issue is crusty bread.

I now treat myself every week to a packet of crumpets and avoid all bread.

Much as they say only exercise and calorie controlled diet works, for me it doesn't due to other health stuff.

I've been using swede more as a potato replacement (I love sweet potato with chilled or harrisa paste mashed in) after realising how little carbs were in it for the bulk.

What are good spruces of fibre without much extra digestible carbs to help keep things regular downstairs.

Have you tried Savoy cabbage??? I shred it and steam fry it or also which I adore curly cale cooked in a little bitter and black pepper.

I don't have a prob with things needed to be regular my meds do that for me hahahhaha.

I also avoid the majority of fruit much as I love it. I maybe once a week have a handful of grapes little oranges are my killer this time of year.

Because fruit is harder to digest it ferments and turns to sugar which my body can't burn off and it turns to fat.

The stuff with people getting a sugar high from a Coke or lots of sweets I get the same from fruit.

Low carb brownies.

Melt 4oz of very dark chocolate with 4oz butter. Stir in 1 cup of ground almonds 5 large eggs, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 3/4 of a cup of Splenda or similar. Mix all together and bung in the oven for about 5 mins at about 190, longer if you want a more cakey texture.

We do low carb, easy in the warmer months as we just grill out and eat lots of fresh veggies...in the cooler months we have to be a little more creative. Last Sunday I cooked a big ham and we both took ham for lunch everyday. Also eat lots of cheese and drink lots of water. I don't miss the sweets but potato chips are my weakness so I just don't buy them anymore, if they're not in the house then I'm not tempted.

I like the dried out non bloated look I have while on it.

Also I demolish anything with sugar in it without hesitation and then go back for more lom

"If you like fish you can make a quick fish dip/pate by mixing tinned sardines or mackerel with yoghurt.

Really I live those tins of makkeral never thought of yoghurt with the though"

I mix tinned tuna with yog and chilli, some mayo, for a great dip. Cottage cheese and yog go well with smoked mackarel.

I often have kebab after training. Chicken shish, no bread. Low fat, low carb.

I make thai salmon and sweet potato fishcakes. Really yummy, low carb and low fat.

"Unless its for a quick fix or medical reasons a low carb diet won't help you lose weight and keep it off.

This is a common misconception. I'm nine years of barely eating 20g of carbs a day and it's life saving. I'm eight stones lighter and I'm fitter and healthier now than when I was in my 30's. "

I think that's because you've done it for 9 years. Most people when the hit there target would go back on them as they are hard for many to avoid.

But well done nine years that's awesome. I've not actualy made 1 complete week of my diet. I keep giving in to and big bars of galaxy xx

There's less than 1 calorie in the bottle.

By con I'm going to assume you're going to refer to the arspiatine myths about it acting like sugar or causing all of the modern world ills.

Because they're just that myths not backed up by any useful evidence.

But they are loved by health food promoters wanting to sell you their cap instead

I doubt it's a myth. My bf was on a diet and got stuck on a certain weight for ages. He drank zero a lot. Once he saw that con theory he gave up and down he went.

Then he strained his tendon and needed surgery and put two stone on.

It is a myth.

There's nothing in it your body can digest and use.

Unless you think there's a major conspiracy involving all the eu governments the American government the fda all food testing laboratories and heck anyone with a cooker and a pan.

Each to there own. if its clean carbs potatoe rice pasta etc you will lose weight and keep it off. If you eat salads lose weight in space of few weeks you will plonk it all back on as soon as you start to eat anything normal again. Also whilst doing it you will feel rubbish. Eat clean food regular your metabolism will go up and you will lose weight. It's science

Eat less than your maintenance amount of calories and you lose weight. Eat more and you will gain weight. That's science.

In most cases, unless you're already on point with your diet, we could all do with cutting the amount of carbs we consume.

As is insulin resistance which means your body does not absorb the carbohydrates in your blood stream from eating carbs from things like potatoes and pasta. I get all my carbohydrate needs from vegetables and some fruits. I do eat some potatoes and pasta but only on odd occasions and when I do I feel sluggish and tired.

Weight loss is not a one size fits all solution, bodies are different therefore approaches are different.

1.5 stone down, many more to go lol

"So far my meals are (mostly for work)

I'm using protein shake blended with milk and frozen blueberries as a sort of thick smoothie (comes out like McDonald's milkshake consistencey) as my sweet spot hitter but could do with some more ideas."

For a sweet fix, i have egg custards made with skimmed milk, canderel and nutmeg. I could eat them all day...x

If you're really going for as little carb as possible ditch the milk and use cream instead.

Milks about 5g carb per 100ml and cream is 1.5 ish for double. Takes some getting used to in coffee mind.

I'm often tempted to go down the Atkins type route again. Especially being back at my job getting 40% discount off fresh butchered meat

My top tip for low carbing is 'cake in a cup'. Filling and just knocks the sweet craving.

1 mug, 1 medium egg, low cal hot choc powder, low cal powder sweetener.

Crack egg into mug. Add 3 heaped teaspoons of hot choc and 3 heaped teaspoons of sweetener. Whisk until slightly frothy. Pop in microwave for 2 minutes.

Voila. Almost chocolate sponge.

Has helped me lose 35lbs.

Yes, I do 300ml of skimmed milk to 3 large eggs. Half a tablespoon of canderel. Whisk and pour into ramekins and sprinkle with nutmeg. You can add a drop or two of vanilla essence if you like.

Bake the pots in the oven, placed in a roasting tray, surrounding the pots with water for about 20 mins on 160°.

I lost 2 and a half stone in just under 3 months, on a diet where these are very popular. x

An alternative i have seen is the ketosis way. Using high fats as a source of carb. Not something i am doing as i think a balanced diet with a bit of everything is best for me, but check out a guy called Tim Ferris he has a podcast and tv show going in to detail about it.

I was going to use ketosis as a diet for training for my next run. But it's so bloody expensive. It has to be high quality fat, not fast food fat.

You can have a diet thats plenty balanced enough without the ammount of carbohydrate that we consider normal in this country.

On the other hand, it is perfectly possible to lose weight on a diet that has carbs (including refined ones) in it.
