Try to change the mood around here a little bit, I have a bit of a passion for foreign language films. Only recently discovered, so must be lots of great films you guys can recommend.

Some of my favourites are

From France

A prophet

Mesrine

Blue is the warmest colour

Denmark

Pusher

Festen

Norway

Headhunters

Another one with the same actor and a true story about a world war two saboteur

Sweden

All the millennium trilogy films

Brazil

City of God

Poland

In darkness

Kiler

Katy

South Korea

Old boy

Indonesia

The raid

Australia

Animal kingdom

New Zealand

Once were warriors

They're just the immediate great films I have recently watched. Plenty more I want to see, especially European cinema as they're very realistic and gritty films.

If anyone has any recommendations they'd be greatly appreciated

Spanish: Nine Queens (amazing conman/ oceans 11 style. Not really gritty, but clever)

If you can hack it: Irreversible. Very dark though. But very good.

Thanks for the irreversible mention. I read the reviews about that a long time ago on IMDB and wanted to watch it. But would never have remembered the name. Does sound very dark, but a big fan of Vincent cassell.

Not seen la haine yet, keep meaning to watch that as all the reviews are brilliant

If you like Oldboy try the others in the Vengeance trilogy. And if the hunger games was to your taste there's Battle Royale. And one of my favourite comedies is Wasabi with Jean Reno

Another German one is Sophie Scholl again a true (and tragic) story.

My mates call me for have an affinity for either fucked up or morbid / heavy films

If you do get to see Bad Boy Bubby or Antibodies you may see their point

Jean Reno is a fantastic actor, will also look up Wasabi

I'm the same, which is why European cinema is much better for me. Watch katyn, polish film about the Russian massacre of hundreds of polish soldiers which was covered up and blamed on the Germans for decades.

Very morbid, but a must watch.

Also another polish film is In Darkness. true story about a polish guy who helped several Jewish people survive in the sewers of livi.

It's a loose trilogy based on the subject of vengeance by the same director Lady Vengeance and Sympathy For Mr Vengeance are the others. Oldboy is the pick of them

I love most of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong cinema films.

I recently watched a Polish film called Katyn which told the story of the Polish officers murdered by the Russians in the Katyn Forest during WW2. It's the first time in a while a film has bought me to tears.
