My dad sent me this today, and I thought I would share it with you.

.

It is not Paris that we should pray for. It is the world.

It is a world in which Beirut, reeling from bombings 2 days before Paris, is to covered by the press.

A world in which a bomb goes off at a funeral in Baghdad and not one person status update says ‘Baghdad’, because not one white person died in that fire.

Pray for the world that blames a refugee crisis for a terrorist attack. That does not pause to differentiate between the attacker and the person running from the very same thing that you are.

Pray for a world where people walking across countries for months, their only belonging on their backs, are told they have no place to go.

Say a pray for Paris by all mean, but pray more, for the world that does not have a prayer for those who no longer have a home to defend.

For a world that is falling apart in all corners, and not simply in the towers and cafes we find so familiar.

.

I agree

these 120 people will be forgotten by the masses in the the same way as the 100's of thousands of innocent people being killed in their homelands.........

only their immediate families will grieve over the long term.

I don't know where we all go from here. But violence is making the fog thicker.

I sincerely believe that the threat to our nation, or even the Western world, doesn't come from terrorist fucks but how we respond to them.

We contribute to our own problems in this world.

I didn't see but I'm sure it was dreadful, full of jeering and baying for blood.

I like how the Pentagon spokesperson said Jihadi John had been 'eviscerated' and that it had been a 'clean strike'.

However they knew?

Do you know what would sort this mess out?

A good, old-fashioned imperial carve up. A proper one, coloured maps and everything. Stick a few local strong men in...

Sorted.

People said the same thing in the US after 9/11.

We live the consequences of those sentiments every day. As do the people in Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan, Libya...the list goes on.

Lots of voices that are heard and ignored? Politicians giving us other things to worry about. More "important" things that takes our minds off of the fact they aren't doing everything they could be. Our Government sides with whomsoever is holding the aces. China is becoming our new best friend. We'll soon be snapping at it's heels, begging for a pat on the head and a bone to chew on. I'm digressing but the world super powers have no intentions of making the world peaceful. They need us to hate each other.

Again, not that atrocities are comparable but the US-led coalition in Yemen mistakenly bombed a wedding party, killing 130+ people at the end of September.

The Pentagon's admission that it was deffo the wrong target went without nery a mention.

http://metro.co.uk/2015/09/29/suspected-air-strikes-kills-131-after-landing-on-yemeni-wedding-party-5412800/

Or the shit going on in Syria (mass grave of 83 Yazidi women was discovered today) or Iraq, or or or...

People care,we don't have the power to do anything. We read the news and post on Facebook how much we abhor what goes on around the world but not many people do anything about it.

My sister and friends have done a little to collect for the shoe box campaign. Just 23 boxes,it's something but we could always do more.

I hope everyone is aware of the truth behind the 9/11 now. If not please search various documents/videos (of experts) which went against what the official US reports say. They will open your eyes.

Muslims with the ISIS and Al-Kaida (I ignore the spelling sorry...)...sometimes used as an excuse (like in 9/11)

Israel and Palestine (war set by US and Europe who created a new state inside another state...)

Black people in Africa who do mass murders everyday killing and raping children and women EVERYDAY. Export of weapons there by US and Europe helps it.

Ucraine and Russia (some says someone is behind it. Maybe US

Maybe not)

Note that I do believe that crazy people exist (like now in Paris). What I say is that sometimes they are used for a country's goal. This is even worse...

Just my two penny's worth

Paris was an awful attack

But how many sleeper cells are in Europe now

How many of the young single men / refugees fleeing Syria are in a warm bed in Germany ?

Whilst I appreciate & understand & sympathetic with the refugee crisis

How do we know that their is not a small group of extremists amongst them

This isn't a bashing to immigrants refugees of any creed or colour

But we need to sure who they are before they are let in

Just look at the Eastern European that killed that young woman earlier this year

Free movement could bite us in the arose big time

Just my personal opinion

Pray for Paris

I feel this attack more closely than others in Lebanon, Iraq, Pakistan or other places not because the people involved are more white but because it's closer to home. I, like many other people in Britain, spend time in France and Paris, I've been to the Stade de France and I may well have eaten in one of the restaurants involved: I've definitely eaten in ones near by.

Every day people are murdered around the world but if your neighbour is murdered you're going to take more notice. The media reaction to this event, indeed Britain's reaction as a whole, is more to do with this than the colour of the skin of those attacked.

"My dad sent me this today, and I thought I would share it with you.

For a world that is falling apart in all corners, and not simply in the towers and cafes we find so familiar.

.

"

You don't have to go out of the country to find things that the media forgets. 2 terrorist bomb attacks and a shooting this week in Northern Ireland but it's not newsworthy enough.

Not totally but overall I quite liked it. It's some of the follow up posts that seem to me to be taking this thread in a direction that's saying we only care because those attacked are white.

To me that attitude is almost as bad and possibly the full reflection of some of the posts posted on the jihady john thread.

Really? We only care because, it's practically on our doorstep. And we've probably been there and Paris has a 'relevance' to most of our lives much more than other places. It's simple human nature.

"I feel this attack more closely than others in Lebanon, Iraq, Pakistan or other places not because the people involved are more white but because it's closer to home.

"

I'm not sure I entirely agree.

I agree we are likely to feel it more when we recognise ourselves in those affected, when we recognise the place not as somewhere foreign but as somewhere familiar and when we have that moment of "it could have been me".

The atrocities in Paris are entirely horrible, of course they are, but not more than those happening to others in other parts of the world.

All news is curated and the editorial slant will decide which bits of news make it on to our radar.

I saw the announcement on the 10pm news and then watched through until 2am. When I woke up I switched on the news and watched another couple of hours. Then I stopped.

I stopped because it was not reporting anything new. It was reporting people grieving. It was reporting people placing flowers. It was reporting the supposition of what if it was London?

DJ, thanks for the OP, it's the first bit of balance I have seen on this today (I don't mean the forum - I have ignored all threads in an effort to curate my own reading).

No. People care because the media tell you it's happening. If they don't report it,understandably, people generally don't care about it. People were concerned about Lybia and the press stopped covering it. Do you think it's peaceful now?

One of the first things i thought about when i noticed all the news coverage.

That little refugee child who died got publicity for a day, none of the others who have died since have been mentioned.

Band Aid, we were raising money to cover the effects of war there but were never told that.

The world can be a fucked up place, which is why we use fucked up ways to deal with that. People are finding out the truth though and not putting up with it.

Religion is misused by many and all these ways of misuse to lead wars to murder, to kill innocent and wipe out intellect.

A few mislead the mass into believing, what they do is right and what all others do is wrong.

Mankind has never lived in peace; no imperial, democratic or oppressive system has lead to peace in anyway or manner for humans.

This as it is not the nature of mankind to settle down with the “lamb”; war produces war; revolution eats its' own children and to what end??

The end is that families mourner for their children, their parents, their sister and brothers, and the great mass of humans “jump” onto the next media issue, forgetting what has happened within minutes.

Maybe it would be a better world if we all stopped and thought for 10 minutes of the losses of others, the loss to us all in murder intellect and lives.

10 minutes could stretch into 20, 20 into 1 hour, 1 hour into 1 day...

But that is a thought and thoughts are like the wind, here and there never to be caught.

All our thoughts are with the families who have lost someone through war, political and religious oppression, through accident and self harm …

Maybe we should just give these thoughts 10 minutes of time

Totally agree with you, same as the Tunisia attacks, after a week they stop reporting as something else happens. Apparently readers interest, well my interest is how these countries that provide our resources are doing. We take too much for granted as we have everything, compared to those in other countries, yet our humanity seems to go once the media stop covering about it.

"People said the same thing in the US after 9/11.

-Courtney

Nice tits

I feel like a woman now. No one listen to me, they just stare at my breast

Sorry - did you say something?

Pecs appeal...

Don't underestimate the power of the written word to educate. The more people behind computer screens that share the truth of what is happening in the wider world the better. Change may be slow but it is inevitable.

You also shouldn't underestimate the power of the written word to deceive and mislead and that many behind their computer screens have no interest in spreading the truth but rather in spreading whatever information they believe might further their own personal belief or cause.

I do. I start at home. Last week there were two bomb attacks and a terrorist shooting in Northern Ireland. Paris is closer to London than Belfast. Shallow but true
