Why do people log on but not read their messages?

For me I sometimes just don't want to read them at that moment so leave them for a while before I open them

"Why do people log on but not read their messages?"

For us it depends on the message, most are one liners with no interesting content, you dont need to open these to read them.

Surely you cannot tell if it is a one liner until you open the message.

I take the point about not wishing to open messages at that moment.

Well.... If it is a message from a single guy, we never read them! Just hit delete... (Unless they are one of the chosen few )

If it is from a couple, we can see who it is and how the message starts and read it if it starts other than "Like the pics"

But of course, there is no rule that states we have to read mail just because we sign in!

What's a Message

As the OP is a male and is straight, can we assume that you will be messaging couples and females?

Females and some couples get hundreds of emails a week, the fems that are popular in chat or on the forums, possibly more.

So, they may well designate time, once a day, once a week etc to go through their mails.

Especially nowadays where many people are accessing their account through smartphones/iPads etc, they may wait till later in the day to check mails and reply (or delete)

Just dont let it bother you, its their profile and their life and to most, reading emails on here wont be a priority.

I usually have a look to see if there is any mail then often wait for hubby to come home and we read them together.

Not assuming this but if it's the op messages not being read maybe it could be something to do with your age

I log on and go to forums or chat, hardly ever read messages. When I do, it's normally to see if folks I know have messaged. I don't feel bad because I do say in my profile I don't like the pm system, it doesn't work for me. I won't go on a rant about people not reading profiles, coz I don't read them either.

"Why do people log on but not read their messages?"

Because they don't have to, or recognise the sender and don't wish to read it. There are no rules regarding reading of private messages and you shouldn't complain about it. If you've sent a message that hasn't been read after, say, a week, delete it, as it will probably never lead to anything anyway.

Because we read the first line and if it's bollocks we don't want you to know we read it all and didn't reply.

Do people really keep track of the messages they've sent?!!

I'm not a jealous person, Lord knows I'm not, but I would give anything to have the time that some people have on her to worry about rubbish!!!

I log on and go straight to the forums. I don't take any notice of my inbox until I've read and answered on the forums. If the messages are from friends sometimes I answer, sometimes not - they know me well enough to know I'm that way inclined. If it's from someone outside my stated criteria or a one liner/crude...gets deleted without even opening...and I continue quite happily with my life!

"Not assuming this but if it's the op messages not being read maybe it could be something to do with your age"

I am sure there is someone for everyone.

To the OP....we don't always reads mails as soon as they come in, it depends on what mood I am in as to what I want to do, be that read forums /chat or just answer mails from people who we have met before....I am guessing by the posts here there are lots of people who do the same.

Be patient, it pays dividends sometimes

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

If I log on on my iPhone I can see that there is a message, but I cant open it...

So it sits in my inbox until I get round to logging on on the PC, but I will be shown to have logged on several times in the meantime.

That topic certainly resulted in many _iewpoints. Thank you all for your contributions.

To the person who highlighted my age, I admit I am 63. I cannot change that but am still active and want to enjoy the pleasures of life.

Happy New year to you all

When I'm at work I can't always read PMs. It comes up showing that I've read it but in actual fact I get a nasty big screen where the PM should be saying that there's 'porn detected' - I mean really... WTF?!

This is a knitting forum right?!
