Potato should not be in a pie. It goes on top instead of pastry or next to the pie in a big dollop with liquor. If it's in it's a pasty.

That is Brook's Bakery, Cake, News Agent and sweet shop at the bottom of Wharton Hill in Winsford, Cheshire. Sadly gone now to make way for a kabab shop...

Coward's Butchers in Frodsham (Sue Coward pies) make a passable meat and potato pie, although I would recommend you go for their stake, Stake and kidney or Scotch Eggs!

Maybe it IS an age thing but they have deteriorated so much I no longer buy them.

Do the test.

Warm one up.

Take of the lid.

Look at contents.

It's runny mash with the odd lump in and what look like speckles of something that could have once been meat.

Tastes of pepper.

Pastry not that good.

They used to have a good spoonful of scouse in them.

I always crave Meat n tater pie since moving to the midlands 15 yrs ago, so when any of my family come to visit they bring me bags of em, and 1st thing I do when I go back 'ome is get two fom the first chippy I see open , Mrs W doesn't understand it but thats cos she's a brummie with no idea sbout pies or chips n gravy lol

Hollands are average at best.

Best pies for me are galloways in wigan.
