Fortune tellers real or fake ?????.

My ex girlfriend was an avid believer in these people and paid obscene amounts of money to be told a load of cods wallop and rubbish.

The so called after life does not exist and as John Lennon said bless him xx " nothing below us and above only sky" we all need a spiritual guidance some times but to fleece people of hard earned cash £££££££££ in a time of need just baffles me.

I used to say to her give me £10.00 i will tell you what you want to hear.

The sea side ones are the worst but having been to Ingoldmells recently on a day out, out side of this palm readers caravan it was packed with people waiting....... @ £30.00 a go.

I am in the wrong game ??????

I'm not sure that I'd agree with the idea that there is nothing else apart from this life but I would definitely agree that fortune tellers and people who say they can communicate with the dead are at best delusional and at worst, and far more likely, fraudulent scammers.

There was a funny documentary on 4 recently about psychics.

If it makes someone happier, I don't see a problem. As long as they're not mugging someone off or preying on the broken hearted.

A friend organised for a phsycic to visit her home for a spot of fortune telling. She didn't get there on time due to traffic chaos on the motorway after an accident.

Apparently she didn't see that was going to happen

I did think this. But after walking past the fortune teller at Whitby and her stopping me and telling me to go back and pester my doctor about the health issues I was having, she had never seen or spoken to me before. I laughed about it at the time but did go back. Turned out I had 2 major issues. I'm still unsure but maybe some are legit

There are rare people who can pick up certain energy from others. Dogs can sniff out certain cancers I don't find it too much of a leap to think that some people can use the five senses we have to pick up things from people. That said the vast majority are fakes and charlatans.

There are a lot of scammers but some are spot on. I went to one who my friend knew. I was sceptical, but he knew things about me that I had not told anyone at all. He could tell I wasn't convinced and spent a lot of the session recapping over things I was crying by the end of it.

My friend goes to one who she swears by, we also had a patient in who was a medium who pulled one of my colleagues aside and said lots to her - was amazing and surprisingly true

There I was, sat in front of the fortune teller as she gazed into the crystal ball..

Weirdly she started to smile.. A big smile. Then she laughed. So I punched her right in the face, thinking it was funny she didn't see it coming.

"What did you do that for?" She screamed at me, adding "why did you hit me?!?!"

So I told her it was just the way I was brought up.

I was always told to strike a happy medium...

Again just because you are unable to fathom how they know does NOT indicate they are talking to dead things

As clearly illustrated above Derren brown and many more perform this illusion

It's called cold reading.

Even when it's totally set up and before the act the person has stated to the camera they can't speak to the dead people in the audience swear they knew things they couldn't possibly know.

You give them all the info they need.

The good ones are very skilled but it's all a con.

Anyway of you could reliably p_edict the future you'd have two outcomes the issue of infallible knowledge (you'd know the future but if you tried to change it etc you'd cause it/all sorts of paradoxes) and second you'd be rich as god as you could win any betting/sporting/financial system going

No they don't.

But then again the police and armies around the world bought that bulshit bomb sniffer thing that worked on dowsing principles.

After hund_eds-thousands of deaths because of it obviously not working at all the designer and seller is now in prison for fraud.

Yes. The rare (extremely rare) people who are able to use their intuition in ways most of is can't don't usually make a living from it.

I haven't noticed Colin Fry getting in touch for instance.

Derren Brown can do it, he uses the same techniques as the rest.

He just admits its all down to techniques rather than anything spiritual.

It's called cold reading. A few books have been written about it. It's a method of making vague statements seem personally applicable to people. All these people who say "Oooh they must have a sixth sense" are mistaken: just good observational skills and the ability to say things which seem to be right for you.

Plenty have been given a warm reading too, and not even been aware of it. Friends and family that introduce you to them, can give an awful lot of info away unknowingly.

I heard a great tale about someone plying their trade at, I think, the Glasow Empire. Someone played them at their own game, allowing the medium to believe that they were in contact with their dead father, eventually they butted in and apologised, "sorry, my mistake, he's not dead, he's sitting here next go me."

The rest of the show was abandoned as they couldn't be heard over the laughter at their ineptitude.

Central

When you've seen Derren Brown convince others that he's both psychic and a medium, even if he just uses cold reading, then you realise that it's easy to convince others that you've got some magical powers.

The Randi foundation $1 million is still unclaimed by anyone who can demonstrate their psychic powers - it's been unclaimed for many years. If there are so many millions of people who have this 'gift' then it would have been claimed years and years ago.

I think the vast majority of them know that they are using cold reading techniques as well as relying on the biases that the customers have for remembering the near correct bits or distorting the other parts of the reading, so that they either overlook the inaccuracies or distort it, so that they convince themselves that the psychic was more correct.

And there are the delusional. There's a channel 4 show 'My Psychic Life', that's airing at the moment. A fair few of these people seemed somewhat outside of reality, to put it mildly. This week had one psychic lady go on a date, where she felt compelled to tell the lovely bloke she met all about her psychic life, on the first date: they didn't meet again.

And there are people who are just fraudulent because it's very easy money. No guarantees, no qualifications requi_ed to get a job etc.
