Different animal babies playing together

You know the kind I'm talking about, these sort of 'Awwwwww!' videos shared on networking sites so often, like a puppy comfortably sleeping in the arms of an orang-utan, or an unlikely friendship between a baby deer and a lion cub, apart from the obvious cuteness factor, does anyone have any deeper thoughts on them?

For example, does it show that in an absence of resource acquisition and fear, we can all be friends, or that we're all ultimately the same until we let other factors decide we're different, etc?

Oh I love this cuddly, thoughtful side to you Brian.

I've worked at a rescue centre in the Amazon for 5 months we used to put different species of baby monkeys together for company until they was old enough to be introduced into there correct group.

The babies all got on very well!

I don't think you can extrapolate too much from these situations. I think that a lot of the time, this happens because of special and unique bonds that develop from a young age. If we tried to do this on a large scale, even without resource scarcity, I doubt it would work.

Disclaimer: I am not a scientist and have no true knowledge of these scenarios

You don't think there's much to be learned from the nature of those bonds, how and why they come about, and then the potentially positive benefits of building upon them?

Mind though, it's a nice idea to think there may be someway you could placate the entire worlds population into loving each other, perhaps find a way to remove the conflict/hostility component from our nature, of course, you'd probably just get those who choose to retain those qualities ruling over a world of tamed beings with no ability to challenge them (a bit like Eloi and Morlocks really).

I've always found it 'imprinting', I have a sheep who thinks she's a dog, because she was raised indoors and learnt my dogs behaviour, I had a rabbit who behaved like a cat (but far less graceful), as she was raised with kittens, and I've had hand raised foals struggle to integrate into the herd because they lack essential body language, the first three months are essential to develop species 'language', all creatures are a blank canvas at birth.
