Had a lady message us today saying you should get someone younger love he is a bit old for you ??? Firstly I don't get why it is there business and secondly what does age have to do with anything ..... what do other people think about big age gaps

Age matters to me personally, I really don't care about what other people do though, if people have a 30 year age gap that's their buisness, only time it bothered me was when one of my daughters was seeing a guy much older than her, I didn't make a big deal out of it as I knew it wouldnt help or solve anything but inside I was uncomfortable about it, thing is being a mother you can't help how you feel about your kids

For other people it matters not, nothing to do with me what other do, if they want a relationship with a guy 50 years older fair play, but as a mother I view my children different, some things just don't sit right with me and you can't control your feelings, you can control how you act on them, and as I said I didn't make a big deal out of it because I knew it would make matters worse but it didn't change how I felt inside

Depends on their age, my daughter was only 17 when she turned up with this guy in his 30, I just felt she was to young to be with a guy who was closer to my age than her own, but that was more down to her age than the age gap, had she been 30 and seeing a guy who was 45 that wouldnt bother me at all because at 30 your old enough to know what you want and what your doing at 17 your still learning and people can easily take advantage of that

Some people have no preference about any of the above and some do

You will also find that for sex age don't matter to a lot but for a relationship it does

What is your point exactly there is no 13 year old there's an 18 year old.

The fact that the same age gap is is illegal when younger (my folks are 2 years apart omg that means 16 and 14!!!!!) Bares No relevance to the situation.

It's just a matter of what makes you happy

I personally couldn't have a relationship with a much younger guy, firstly I just wouldnt feel comfortable with it, I don't want a guy making me look old I don't want to be out with a guy people think is my son, things like that matter to me, I know people say it don't matter what others think but to me it does, I wouldn't want to be seen as some sad old woman plus to be honest its very rare I find young guys attractive im not really into the young baby faced look and my kids would disown me if I turned up with a guy in his 20s

18 years between me and my mrs,we met when i was 20,its down to preference, live and let live, if its legal and they are happy good luck to them,as for not fucking a teenager, so 20 is ok but 19 isnt ,not sure about that!!

I understand what you're saying and I agree. The OP asked about big age gaps. A 20 year gap between a younger couple is different to a 20 year age gap with a much older couple.

She can have an opinion but she was wrong to mail to tell you as it's none of her business.

I think it's entirely up to the couple. A 50 year age gap doesn't matter, as long as they are happy.

I think you have to have things in common with people and it depends on the individual.

My son is 19 and his friends the same age I laugh and chat to them but I have nothing in common with this age group.

I have always had more in common with people my age group .

Years ago before married I was 17 and he was 28 .I eventually finished with him as he wanted to stay in and I wanted to go out all the time.It would of never worked out.

I've always preferred older men. My ex husband was nine years older. My dad was 14 years older than my mum and they were married 47 years when she died.

That said, for me personally, my limit is not young enough to be my son or old enough to be my dad.

If my 24 year old rocked up with a 50 year old I'd wonder if she'd lost her mind. What I find "worrying" is the older partner invariably states the younger partner is "mature". If you truly want "mature" why not go for it? Almost like men who are "straight" but only want to meet "convincing" tgirls...but I digress.

All things considered, what others choose to do is of no concern to me, just get on with your life and enjoy.

Our age gap is not a problem for us. We are in love and that is luck. There are attributes concerning our ages that turn each other on. The biggest problem we have is her biochem degree at a top uni followed by her masters and pgce mean she won't start teaching and have a normal life till 2021.

The amusing bit is. For us as a couple we could not imagine a swinging involvement with an 18 year old lad.

I'm happy if people find the right partners for long term relationships or for shags. If the person is right for you, it's perfect and no one's business.

But you'll always get sour fab users trying to hurt or knock you and it's part of socialising here with disgruntled twisted individuals. We just have to block and report anyone behaving inappropriately.

I'm 32 and 18 is far too young for me, Mrs GNB has just turned 27 and she wouldn't go any younger than 20. It is down to personal preference. What you guys do is your business, i don't really get why people feel the need to judge.

Me too...so while I can't imagine me ever having a relationship with an 18 year old I could feasibly imagine a relationship with a 42 year old.

I have to agree. The age gap has a bigger impact if the age of the younger partner is under 20. That's just my opinion. Shame the OP doesn't seem to be able to grasp that idea. But each to their own.

The problem people have here is the 18 bit, because she's a teen, they forget that at 18 some can be quite mature and know what they want etc. You're not old enough to be her dad, so when the teen bit goes (when she's 20) people won't see it as much of a problem, you'll be 33and the age gap will still be the same, yet people will judge differently.

My friend at Uni is 19 and her bf is 28 and people have said stuff to her, when I met her bf I thought he was the same age as her, so the only way people are judging is once they know the gap, until then they don't care. She's very mature for her age (guess that's why she sits with us mature student ) so if she wants to date someone 28 it's up to her. My ex was 36 when I got with him and I was 21, no one cared about the age gap there.

Just be happy and ignore what others say, it's your relationship

I have always been with older men, there's a 15 year age gap between me and my current partner and on the face of it people are a little sceptical - before I met his parents they were a bit unsure of a 25 year old but once they see us together they accept it. I had a 23 year age gap with my previous partner, we were together 8 years - it must have looked awful to the outside world but to us it felt totally normal

Personally, age matters a great deal to me.

Young people have zero appeal, due to my being attracted to personality, character and intelligence. I'm sure there are some brilliant young people out there. But I've never met one yet, who ticked my boxes. And I wouldn't even want to play with a teenager in the same room. It'd make me very uncomfortable, as a mother.

But that's my problem.

What other people feel and think shouldn't affect the behaviour of two people who are, technically, adults.
