How To Help Homeless People Without Paying A Penny

THIS WILL NOT COST YOU A PENNY BUT COULD CHANGE SOMEONES LIFE.

Winter is here and I am sure you are feeling the cold. There are many people out there who have no where to live. They live rough in the streets. NO ONE SHOULD LIVE LIKE THIS. We have seen a new website where all you have to do is give information about the location of someone you are aware of sleeping rough. That is all you have to do. Then the people behind the website will approach these people and give them the help they need to get shelter and warmth. None of this "Give £3 a week etc.... All you have to do is tell http://www.streetlink.org.uk/ where the people are. The rest is taken care of. So if you are walking along a street and see evidence of someone sleeping rough like cardboard boxes in a way that looks like it is a bed or shelter. Make an effort to go back later in the evening and see if someone is there. Then pop on the website and let them know. The chanced this person could be helped to keep warm and turn their life round has to be the greatest gift to them....and will make you feel pretty good too. It is about time that the government looked after people like this.

And it does not cost you a penny.

Streetlink is a great service and work tirelessly with the homeless, keep on giving hot drinks etc now it's getting colder...cold weather provisions should kick in shortly.

If I have anything that I haven't eaten from my dinner I always pass it on to a homeless person, I never give money though I don't know if that makes me harsh or not

No it doesn't used to work for a big homeless charity in London who discouraged people giving money to the homeless.

I always give money. It's none of my business what they spend it on. If it's drink or drugs, so be it.

We all need some comfort.

We are at TV studios a lot and the one day we were eating out in an all you can eat buffet. All of a sudden there were loads of homeless people coming in and going upstairs. Upon asking I found there was a charity that once a year pay for them all to come to this restaurant and eat. Once again I looked at my food thinking how it is taken for granted. I have been at an all you can eat buffet and look at the food being thrown away. I said why not feed the homeless and they said that they can not guarantee the quality of the food once it has left the building. The government should issue a special ID card to people who have no food who can go to an all you can eat buffet when they close and just finish off what is left over.

No not harsh at all. You need food to survive. If you feed them and not give them money for drugs then you are doing them a favour to get clean. (Obviously not all homeless are on drugs but I am sure you understand what I mean). Some of these people on the street just need a little advice and direction on where to get help.

Maybe, maybe not. I just hated seeing the food go to waste and I know that if an all you can eat buffet said they would help homeless people there are going to be some people out there who are not homeless who would try to take advantage. It is stopping the people who do not need the service taking advantage and makeing sure the people who need it get it.

read the other day that a simple pair of socks can make a difference - so i might get some in and offer them around - used as socks or mittens makes a huge difference to how warm you feel

Hah! Not leftovers only unopened food, I'm not that harsh to give them half an apple and one half of a sandwich!

When I do my monthly shop I always chuck in a load of toiletries - tampons, sanitary towels, deodorants, razors, toothpaste & brushes, shower gels etc... Then rice, pasta, porridge oats, cereals & long life milk. I don't have much spare cash & it might only be value ranges but £10 can go a very long way

I used to throw out footwear. Up until one day I saw a homeless person wearing footwear that was literaly a strap over their foot and badly fitted. Having pretty big feet most people can fit into mine. I saw some cardboard boxes a while ago and just left some trainers in the doorway that had a lot of wear in them. Felt so good the following day seeing the footwear that they originally had on in the bin. I knew they had found them and was wearing them. Never saw the person but knowing I made a difference was great even though only a little difference.

£10 to someone homeless is more then most can imagine. Fair play to you.
