VISA HELP PLEASE

Hi, is there anyone with travel experience that can help me ???

I'm meant to be meeting some friends in Vietnam from 19th of December to 4th of January.

Do I need a visa for them dates?

I called the Vietnam embassy and couldn't get through to a person.

Couldn't really understand the Vietnamese robot either (But that's partly down to bad signal my end)

I read somewhere that you need a visa for anything over 15 days?

I was planning on going Cambodia for a few days aswell, so maybe if I keep below the 15 days in Vietnam then I wouldn't need a visa?

The only problem is my flights are booked to leave from Vietnam and not sure I can re enter the country again without a visa?

CONFUSED!

Don't they have a website you could check?

I recently went to Aus and everything I needed to know about a visa was on their website

Google is your friend.

However, I would advise that if you are coming and going from a Vietnamese border crossing, and that goes over a visa time threshold, then you probably need a visa.

Also, I've been to Cambodia (but not Vietnam) and you usually need a visa for them too, but you buy it when you get off the plane. Although it might be different for UK citizens.

Yes and also Vietnam has requirements on how long you have left on your passport, I believe you need at least a year left to run on it

Entry requirements

Visas

From 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016, all British passport holders travelling for tourism or business can enter Vietnam for a maximum of 15 days without a visa. If you re travelling for business reasons you should contact the relevant Vietnam government department before travel to check whether any licenses are required to carry out your duties.

You’ll still need a visa to enter Vietnam for periods of longer than 15 days and if you wish to re-enter Vietnam within 30 days of your departure. Make sure you get the correct visa for the purpose and destination of your trip.

The safest option is to get a visa from the Vietnamese Embassy before you travel. If you plan to leave Vietnam and re-enter from another country make sure you get a multiple visit visa.

There are legitimate companies that can arrange visas on arrival, but you must organise this before you arrive in Vietnam. We have been told that the personal information of multiple applicants can be included in letters confirming visa approval, which is normal procedure for the Vietnamese Immigration Department and any alteration to the letter would invalidate visa approval. If you are concerned about this you should apply for a visa through the nearest Vietnamese Embassy. There are also a number of bogus companies claiming to offer this service. The Embassy and Consulate General cannot confirm whether a company has a legitimate arrangement in place.

From 15 November 2015, British nationals who are spouses or children of Vietnamese nationals can apply for a visa exemption certificate. The certificate is valid for 5 years and allows multiple entries into Vietnam for 6 month periods. Applications can be made at the nearest Vietnamese Embassy or the Immigration Department in Vietnam.

Overstaying your Vietnamese visa without authority is a serious matter and you may be delayed from travel until a fine is paid. Check the visa validity and conditions carefully.

I've had a look but I'm rubbish at this

That's where I see the bit about the 15 days but iv booked for 17 days so I'm not sure.

And I'm not sure if you need to apply 6 months prior to leaving for a visa.

Just thought I would ask on the off chance anyone had any info.

Yes. When you go to leave the country in Vietnam they will look at your date of entry.

You need a visa. Sorry, but true.

check yyour lonely planets guide for Vietnam, they will have the most upto date information, and how the regulations actually pan out.

IMO if you're needing to get a visa for anywhere you need a year on your passport before its expiry date just to be sure

Thanks again for replies, I've been searching on the internet but not having much luck.

From what I can tell (could be wrong) iv not got enough time to get a visa before leaving and my flights can't be changed.

So I might just need to book more flights so i can return within the 15 day period and forget about the £750 iv wasted and put it down to experience

Shame cause my current flights are for 17 days and 4 days of that I'm in Cambodia!

I used to do things like that all the time - don't sweat it you'll be fine!

So you don't think they will refuse entry cause my flights show I'm staying 2 days longer?

I'm not to worried about fines I got them for over staying in Peru and it was pretty cheap, only I had a one way ticket and 6 month visa when arrived.

But everything is so easy when you're there for visas to Cambodia, Laos, Thailand etc... you can pay an agency to do it for you.

Hahaha I think I'm loosing my mind! I'm super hungover from the weekend! And dyslexic at best of times! Why I didn't just book 2 weeks in skegness I dont know!

I think it's just a bit confusing as when I called the Vietnam embassy the robot said you need 6 months prior to leaving to organise a visa.

But then apparently you can get a visa on arrival if you pay, but iv not confirmed this yet.....

I thought going away for Christmas would be less stressful than spending it with the family...... I'm not so sure now!

If you enter Vietnam and don't stay more than 15 days then you don't need visa.

When you exit Vietnam (to go to Cambodia) you will need a Cambodian visa (you get this when you arrive Cambodia )

When you travel back to Vietnam - this is considered a new entry - so you have another 15 days.

If you stay air side in the Vietnam airport and are in transit - you don't need a visa
