"Nope...pretty much all cars fail the tests in real world driving conditions so all manufacturers will have their own "methods" of passing the lab tests." I'm surprised that no other manufacturers have been found out yet. VW still make exceedingly good cars, although I suspect they might have to lure customers back with some decent offers.

"I wouldn't buy a Volkswagen based on two factors. They're ridiculously over priced Reliability is an issue - everyone I know with a VAG car has had faults, some very serious and expensive. " My first car was a golf which never had an issue in 10 years. Even did 200 mile with no oil after a mechanic failed to put it in during a service!

"Nope...pretty much all cars fail the tests in real world driving conditions so all manufacturers will have their own "methods" of passing the lab tests." The main reason why emissions tests are done via labs and not real-world is lobbying from European car companies. Largely VW.

"Nope they are still the most reliable cars on the road ..i dont believe for 1 minute they are the only group that have deceived the public and wont be the last " No they are not. Any research will tell you that. They have carefully crafted this image of solid reliability but they are no better than average at best. Toyota are probably the most reliable, but they are just as boring as most VW's.

" A quick search shows Japanese cars dominating the top reliability lists, the worst for reliability is dominated by the German manufacturers.

"All the manufacturers have cheated the test, it's only VAG that have has been caught with a smoking gun so far... you can't say that where is the evidence ?" There have been several independent tests carried out by several research teams showing actual emissions in real driving conditions. BMW and Mercedes come out worse than VW

"The car can start but will probably have had enough residual oil in there to keep going, just. Have seen more than one Ford Zetec and Fiat running with less than a litre in there on a few occasions" It was a 1983 golf, it was making horrendous noises by the end. When I got it to a garage I was told it was nothing short of a miracle that it hadn't blown up!

"Afghan warlords drive Hilux's - not VW's. There's a reason for that" Maybe it's because there easier to mount 50 call machine guns on.
