Sisters coffee machine has gone bump so I thought I might get her a new one as a treat .... she is due her 1st baby this week

So the question, do I get one of those coffee pod machines and if so which is best or a proper coffee machine ??

I'm thinking the pod type will be easier will new baby and less cleaning/hassle but as I hate coffee I don't gave a notion really lol

Any ideas gratefully received

I have a Phillips Senseo

I get my pods on the net, much better choice and variety that way.

Does me fine and no plastic waste

The best coffee machine is a gaggia - but unless you want to spend a few hundred pound don't go for it. The cheap espresso type machines are pretty pants after a few months the pipes will fur and the coffee will taste metallic.

the pods are ok and seem to avoid the metallic taste, Paul currently has a dulce gusto and it's not bad, little bit bitter for me so I stick to a percolator. We have had a nespresso before and we both liked that

Aren't the pods really expensive compared to the price of coffee? I just have a regular coffee machine but it doesn't have a hot plate and glass jar like many do it has a metal thermos jug that keeps the coffee hot and doesn't spoil it. I can set it up before i go to bed and set the timer for the morning and i have a pot of coffee that lasts me until lunchtime. It doesn't get much easier than that and it was way cheaper than the pod machines.

Aeropress is decent, but it takes make for as good a present.

"Aeropress is decent, but it takes make for as good a present."

You could get a fancy bean grinder too though.

I have had an couple..previously a dolce gusto and currently a nespresso.

The taste of the coffee is undoubtedly superior for the nespresso in my opinion but however there is price difference for sure and the capsules..original Nestlé ones. aren't sold in supermarkets.

I've tried a few other brand ones and most are weak, flat tasting rubbish and I'd rather just use my nespresso more occasionally and otherwise brew fresh coffee in a percolator when it's not just for myself.

If my nespresso broke down and I bought another machine I don't think I would consider any other machine though I might look at a nice gaggia because the savings over time on not buying capsules would offset the initial purchase price of the machine.
