So....i took a risk and skipped out on paying for some parking today as i didnt have the right change on me.

As p_edicted i got a parking fine which i know was my fault and i am not moaning about that part of my day.

Why do some car park machines these days only take coins? i rarely carry cash and so often dont have change for parking. There are a few around here that let you pay by phone which is great.

Either that or put change machines next to the parking meters so that if you only have notes you can change them up to pay for your parking!

i know, i know, #firstworldproblems and all that....

Use your ashtray to store some coins. Ours always has a couple of quid in 10p & 20p's in it.

I regularly chuck loose change in a cup holding section of my car. Comes in handy for parking and trolley's that take £1 coins

Parking machines are extremely expensive and it is likely that when they were bought them they worked out the cost on an expected lifecycle.

There will be contactless there. One day.

A lot of the ones near me don't take cash (cards, coins or notes) anymore. They sit there with a sign telling you to call a number, which is fine if you have a fully charged phone, a card and have registe_ed your car. Plus there is a transaction charge.

Train station Pay and Display machines do my head in. Costs about £12 for a day and trying to find that much in change five minutes before my train leaves makes for creativity.

Contactless payment would be sweet.

i downloaded an app for some car parks called ringo or something which allows you to key in the unique code for that car park and pay the requi_ed amount. the good thing about that is if you want to extend your stay you dont have to rush back to the car park to buy another ticket.

I have extended my time (too many times) but I do wonder how that complies with the notice that says "No return within 2 hours" at nearly every bay that I have used when I extend my time?

I've always got at least £10 worth of chance in the centre arm rest. You never know when you might need it.

My gripe with parking meters is how very few actually allow you to pay for the time you actually need rather than havibg to commit to paying a minimum of 30 mins to an hour.

Fed up of having to pay 70p for 30 mins when all I really need is 5 min's to collect or buy a single item . It's bollocks

I think that's the site name. It gives lots of info on councils and private operators who break the very strict rules on signage etc in order for the fine to be legal.

I used them when u got done for stopping for 40secs in a taxi rank outside a tube station... £130 fine squashed on appeal.. Priceless

And it would cost a fortune for councils to change the machines and the systems - which would mean higher parking charges

If it's your first ticket in that cAr in that council area

Send a letter of

Representations with a copy of any receipt or appoint ment letter

Explain it was your first time

In area and you were not Aware of

The restrictions until you got a ticket

Councils sometimes let you off first ticket also If they say no

You still pay original fine .

If your ever At a funeral or wake etc and can't find anywhere to park they always let you off after checking obviously

No I will park further out and walk than pay £1.50 for 10 mins pick up ! It has been proven in my local town that parking attendants have been on peace work and have brought in huge amounts of fines in the county, hence dozens of parking meters been destroyed! this has been proven with local shops to an increase in takings, which is an interesting option for the council but sadly igno_ed.

Central

I don't like the presumption of potential guilt with these services. You should be able to have a central reserve of money, say £20, that you'd pay in, so if you ever go over time it would deduct the correct fee.

They don't seem to treat people as real customers wanting a service, with some flexibility built into it.

Nope, no sympathy... you had the option to park in a car park that accepted payment pby phone, and chose to park in a cash only car park knowing you don't carry cash. Self inflicted annoyance

But if it is a private car park, then the parking ticket is only an invoice and it has to be a fair amount to compensate for actual loss to the owners. make an offer to pay the charge plus say £5 for administration costs and you may get away with it

Well I'd be fucked if it was all contactless card payment as I don't have one, nor does my bank issue them.

I keep change in my car, as I never have any on me.

If carparks wanted me to use my phone, well I'd park elsewhere, can't be doing with faffing like that, especially on a flare day.

Happened to me once, i saw the ticket on the windscreen I saw a man about to get into his car and offe_ed to buy his ticket which he said have it for free, I emailed a picture of the ticket I got off the bloke saying if fell off the dash and they cancelled the ticket straight away. Always deal with any tickets though ignoring it makes it worse.
