Somewhat following on from the 'do women get excited watching guys have sex?', this is something I tend to see a lot of these days, especially on younger forms of social media like twitter, and largely posted and shared by girls

Yaoi is a Japanese genre focussing on the subject of romance between males, who in typical fashion, will be beautifully androgynous youths, think lots of gazing longingly into each others eyes, desperate 'don't ever let go of me...' embraces, and of course plenty of nudity, rubbing their long, languid, flawless skinned no excess bodyfat teenaged bodies together. Lots of western girls seem to be crazy for it, especially those into their geek culture.

Is this just one of those faddy things that comes and goes, or does it highlight an area of genuine excitement for women, increasingly able to express their desire for such things in an increasingly empowered female world, rather like how males have for so long with porn depicting countless male fantasies?

I'm not sure that's the underlying attraction, but I certainly don't think it's a fad confined to that genre. Thinking about things like fan fic there's a lot written by young girls about romances between members of One Direction/Harry and Ron/whatever has been popular over the last decade.

I saw a short one about Marvel Thor and Loki! By most accounts, Loki is considered to be the vastly sexier of the two.
