Is lol acceptable text speak.

I'm rather long winded myself and tend to stick to most grammar formalities; however I do feel lol is actually a reasonable indication of mirth.

I like to use haha, although that can have a sarcastic undertone, and hurrumph is a good indicator of agreement, but lol actually gets the point across.

I use all those to as well as "he he" if I think it's a bit naughty to.

Hehe has that slightly mischievous sound about it.

I can't stand lol and I'm unfortunate enough to know people who say it in real life.

Haha is only one extra character and so much less ridiculous.

Aye hehe is a bit mischievous n naughty and use it myself from time to time.

It's almost used as a reply to something that didn't make them laughed naturally but needed a verbal reaction. I think I'd retreat from the world and have a good hard look at myself if I ever said it verbally.

Everything is acceptable if you want it to be.

There are a few words that people use that I wouldn't choose to but it doesn't bother me, it's irrelevant.

I use ha ha or

I don't like lol much, particularly when it is used at the end of an unpleasant comment, made online in public, as if to take the sting out of it.

For example "You're an ugly, miserable man, lol"

I'd prefer to see lol in text, than hear someone speak it

However, I do encounter a load of people who drop it into chats rather indiscriminately and almost always when nothing particularly amusing has been said or remarked upon. Then it gets irritating and I usually never want to see it again.

Overall - why state the bleeding obvious! If something is funny, it speaks for itself a thousandfold.
