I am a tech geek and looking at getting some home automated lights so that I can turn lights on and off remotely

Does anyone else have these and if so what do they think

They seemed a bit expensive so I got a wind up torch.

Probably cheaper buying the plugs that you can get remotes for.

This concept has been raised before, including here by a few users:

If you are a techy then take a look at mi.light rgb/rgbw led controller... Plenty on eBay.

I have sets of 5 metre RGB 50/50 leds plus White 28/28 leds from the same mi.light rgbw controller. One remote control can set colour and brightness directly. A WiFi add-on can also control them via phone app etc.

I've also done automation via Bluetooth and arduino... Very simple to do for a few quid.

Careful with some of the store bought home automation kit. The encryption used has a flaw in its implementation and is easily cracked.

Cheaper and safer option, fit bluetooth reception kit into existing light switches, and you can set them automatically from your phone.
