Phone Roaming Charges in Europe Dropped

Those of us who've traveled in Europe in recent years will have noticed reductions in the prices of using our phones there for calls, texts, data. The EU has now agreed that all of us will be able to use our phones in Europe at our phone companies rates as if were in the UK - and correspondingly for citizens of other EU countries, wherever they travel. The final implementation of these changes are scheduled for 2017.

UKIP MEP Roger Helmer submitted rejection of the changes, on behalf of UKIP. Thankfully this didn't stop the EU parliament from voting for this agreement to come into force.

I wonder what impact this will have on the "uk out of EU" brigade?

Will people change opinions just for cheaper phone usage on their summer hols....

There have been some terrible stories over the years of people returning home to enormous bills. There was a 40 year old mum in 2013 who had a £20,000 bill - more than double her salary She uploaded her photos, which cost £2,700 per day

Having European wide charges instated is on benefit that probably a majority of us will gain from being within the EU. Will UKIP now say that they tried to stop and that we should revert to paying international roaming rates in the referendum?

somewhere out there

For occasional holiday makers it will be ok. However for anyone regularly travelling to Europe your mobile company will still be able to limit the amount of euro minutes / data you can use. It's not going to be a case of having your whole allowance available to you while in Europe.
