...being let off round here. Dog is petrified as usual. Going to be a difficult couple of weeks for her. Any tips for calming her down?

I'm quite pleased that my cat doesn't seem to give a shit about them. I hate fireworks. Pretty to watch but the noise is excessive.

Try not to make a big thing out of it they will find there own safe place in the house, we turn the TV up a bit which helps but our collie like to chase the noise and colours which doesn't help the other 2

Sometimes our golden retriever will lay next to one of us for reassurance so we gently stroke her which calms her a bit

I have read that the reason dogs get upset over fireworks is because we do.

They pick up on us being nervous that they will be sac_ed and then they go on alert or into panic mode. Loud noises + owner being nervous must = big trouble.

The trick, not easy, is to act normal, don't make a fuss of them or cuddle up on the sofa etc. Let them know, by doing nothing, that the noises aren't a problem.

Another thing you can do is get some of the calming stuff for them. For cats it's Feliway but can't remember the dog's one.

Thanks for the advice above. Trying not to not make a fuss, have the tv turned up and have closed all curtains so she can't see them. Did have a suggestion PMed about a relaxant so will look into that, in case it gets too bad around Bonfire night. It's upsetting to see a pet get so stressed for sure

There's a company called csj on the net which sell various cat / dog foods and supplements ! They also sell a product which helps to calm your pets !

Done all that, at 14 not going to make any difference honestly, just hope it rains for two weeks, that way it's not so bad. The other dog doesn't bat an eyelid

play music. find him a warm comfortable place with familiar things. don't over fuss the dog. it makes them think there is something wrong. act/talk normal. and most of all don't react to the external noise. dogs pick up on your emotions.

She is a gun dog, but not a very good one. And I swear we have done everything we can think of. Doesn't help living 2 doors away from a Chinese takeaway, they let fireworks of for anything

I may have to sue you for not doing the risk assessment properly.

If you had conside_ed ALL the risks and seriously tried to mitigate them, you WOULD have warned me not to poke the Catherine wheel nail in my dick hole and set it off.

I am now seriously inju_ed even though I tried to minimise risk by wearing a condom.

Let me tell you my lawyers will be in touch, and secondly, anyone who says they like the smell of burning rubber doesn't know what they are talking about !!!

There is a plug in air freshener, it calms animals down but it does cost a bit.

I'm a bit of a pyromaniac. I have fireworks for next week and Christmas all bought but I'm desperate to let at least one off now ... What's the point of having them already if we can't let off just one every now and then ...

If she's food oriented try offering her bits of chicken or cheese when she doesn't respond to loud noises.
