Woodthorpe

I'm shuffling my way through this and it's a learning curve. After hours of pain and embarrassment today I've just realised some meds I was taking have lactose in them.

Anyone else with this got any helpful advice please?

I'm lactose intolerant. It's a pain. If I do accidentally eat something with dairy in it I end up taking Lansoprazole to help calm the reflux it causes.

Can you buy it over the counter?

No idea. Didn't get much sense out of GP apart from its lactose intolerance

No, it's prescription only. A good over the counter remedy is Ranitidine. You can get them from Aldi for about 40p.

Ok, lactose is hidden in a lot of things without you even realising. There is lactose free cheeses rtc available, soya yoghurt and milk. pure Sunflower or soya spread are dairy free, bread is normally ok from a supermarket but from a bakers they sometimes put milk powder in so always check.

The co-op is really good for allergies. And always really helpful if you ask.

The hardest thing I found with 3 kids with lactose intolerance and milk protein is you have to check ingredients everytime you go to the store as companies have a habit of changing ingredients, I found that out the bad way.

If you need any more help please feel free to pm me

"Take lactase enzyme tablets?"

I feel like stabbing myself in the stomach and whizzing round the room like a balloon without a knot. Laughing in the face of adversity not self harm

I know, Lactose intollerance is very tricky because many food and drugs have it inside...worse than my intollerance maybe

Mostly in GU24

Tesco and morrisons sell K2 milk. Just the lactose removed. My lactose intolerant daughter finds it useful for tea and cereal.

Ask for lactose free if eating out and read all packets.

Lastly, see a dietician for dietary advice.

Central

Lansoprazole is available over the counter, lower strength than possible on prescription.

I like rice and oat milk, in addition to soya. Eventually there will be spunk milk too, but I need to get on dragon's den.

I'd be asking for a full breakdown of my intolerances, to ensure I'd be able to avoid stuff appropriately.

Errr if you take the enzyme you break it down just like everyone else, hence so lactose for the bacteria in your gut to eat hence no gas.

You're an adult you're not meant to drink milk, it's only recently (past 5 thousand years) that adult humans have been able to tolerate it because we started farming cows and goats etc for milk
