It cost £4.00 and boy you can sure taste the cheapness - another place where we need that green pukey faced icon

Recently purchased Hollands' Coronation Street hotoots from Iceland.... Not very nice at all... I am sure Betty Turpin's recipe is much better. Best avoided.

Yeah that's true. I didn't expect it to be brilliant, but I thought maybe it would be at least half edible, but nope - even the dogs turned their noses up so it must be bad

What did you expect? I mean, seriously, this is like going to McDonalds and moaning it's not a five star restaurant.

We do most of our shopping at Lidl and not neccesarily because of the price - we have had minted lamb shanks tonight in a gorgeous sauce - I think it was 5.99 for 2 - the soups are better than Heinz and they have a great selection of wine - it's also a lot smaller than the big supermarkets so you're in and out quick! Never been to Iceland though! Z

Having watched the excellent BBC3 programme britain's most digusting foods, i avoid really cheap food as much as i can. If you get a chance if they repeat the programme, take the time to watch it, as it shows the ingenious ways the food industry has of putting crap ingredients into food, and making it look good.

Iceland has its place but i rarely shop there.

I try to stick to the minimum of processed foods and generally cook from scratch, or pay someone else too, if i can!

There is nothing wrong with Aldi or Lidl - while the general public may perceive them as being a little bit pikey, ask anyone in the know within the supermarket trade and they will tell you that a lot of their products are of equivalent quality to Tesco Finest at a price that competes with Tesco Value.

Try the Lidl branded lasagne for example and say I'm wrong!

I once went out with a German girl who citied the british supermarket snobbery as a classic example of how class ridden our society is.

In Germany EVERYONE shops in places like Lidl and Aldi, from stockbrokers to streetsweepers - In this country if you are posh you shop at waitrose or M&S - middle class shop at sainsburys and tesco - working class at morrisons and adsa - with lidl and aldi on the botton rung.

Your damned rootin' tootin' right there's nothing wrong with Lidl or Aldi. Out of the 2 we prefer Lidl, but both of them have their place in the high street - no doubt about it

Apart from anything else, the stores are usually empty so if you only want a few odds and ends, it's a case of in and out in 10 minutes unlike ASDA and the likes where your in there for half a sodding day

20 years ago when I visited Germany on regular occasions, I used these type of shops long before they were ever heard of in the UK and they were always full of interesting goodies, yummy chocolate being one of them.

Got 8 Cans of Carlsberg for £4.99 in Lidl just this afternoon

What ever happened to good old fashioned home cooking cant beat it. Some of the stuff in iceland ok but never use ready made meals or the microwave its a devils contraption.

Like redhot I used to shop in Aldi's and Lidl's when living in Germany many moons ago. I was delighted to see their shops pop up all over the UK. Germany has some of the more stringent quality controls for their foodstuffs and it's always a fraction of the cost in these stores. Besides I love their frikadellen and Bratwursts.

"the microwave its a devils contraption."

I got rid of my microwave about 2 years ago and haven't missed it for one second.

It saves neither time nor washing up so I don't see the point in them.

As long as I remember to take stuff out of the freezer in advance of needing it then there's no need for them in my opinion.

Although, I was annoyed a few weeks back when I bought something on my supermarket delivery without realising that it was microwave only! Still, my steamer saved the day and all was well in the end.
