in the real meaning of that historic title I mean, none of the johnny cum lately interpretations...so, just to remind you, 1 down from esquire, and 1 up from yeoman, what's your claim to the title? and do we have any Ladies to support your petition?

I should hope I always act as a gentleman. I believe in politeness, opening doors for ladies and giving up my seat.

Yes...I think I am...and those that know me would say I am. Polite, considerate, charming and kind. I can be sharpe tongued...but that is for those that have already gone there and I feel they need the appropriate response.

By “the real meaning of that historic title” are we to take it you mean, a man with an income derived from property, a legacy or some other source, and was thus independently wealthy?
