Got caught speeding 58mph in a 50mph roadworks...coming back from a private party at 7am. Luckily got offered to do a speed awareness course instead of £100 fine/3points. Party was still worth it! Anyone else been caught out?

Yep - mine was down a hill going out of town, with the road changing to a 50, and camera just before change, totally hidden by foliage on the A4 - vile chief plod who's just been sacked for sexual harassment, said in the press - "there's no requirement for them to be visible".

Take the course, paint the smile on, doubtful you'll learn anything.

Don't use Admiral Insurance as they ask if you've done a course (and legally you have to tell them), whereupon they'll add £40 to your insurance.

The speed limits haven't evolved with the cars that use them.

Take my car for example, I can break every speed limit without leaving 2nd gear.

If I break hard, the hazards come on automatically

If I break a bit harder, there an extra 30% breaking power that can be utilised (not sure how it works)

We have some of the lowest speed limits in Europe.

Got caught, fine in post (2 points too),paid right away,year later got a call from the cop summons to court for non payment,showed proof of payment to cop still had to go to court according to him,got to court judge asked why I hadn't paid told him I had and had proof,he went ballistic at the cop for wasting court time my time his time etc long story short fine refunded and no points.

Broken the speed limit numerous times on mountain / road bikes, but apparently that's not against the law!

Only been caught once over the crest of a hill doing 50ish in a 40. Still don't see why the road is a 40 but never mind.

Had a scare on the motorway once. Passed a parked copper at about 80 only to see his blues cone on just as I went by. Slowed a little and pulled into the left lane only to see him tear past me and disappear into the distance. I behaved for the remaining 300 miles of the journey home!

my hubby. he chose the speed awareness course too. at least hes more careful now. u can only do the test once every 3 years x

Clean licence... 25 years I've been driving. Been stopped once when I was 18 for speeding. I turned on the waterworks and made such a pathetic mess of myself they didn't even give me the ticket to hand in my docs.

It's the only time I've played the 'girl' card and it totally worked. They were trying not to laugh through the whole conversation. I chuckled all the way home.

Got caught by the roadworks M60 joining onto M62 at 7am on a Sunday. No traffic...last drink was 1am as I knew Id be driving hm in morning. So no...not reckless, just wanted to get hm so I can get to bed. But most likely best time to catch drinkdrivers at that part of day.

No i have never been caught speeding and i never will as i don't speed ever.

I find it odd that some people seem to be almost boasting about being caught speeding ! A sad reflection on society today !

Having had a close relative die following a driver driving illegally and hitting him on our roads i feel very strongly about it (although i did'nt speed before anyway).

There is a reason for speed limits especially in built up areas and having seen what happens to someone in a rta and what happens to the family especially children when someone is seriously injured and then dies then i feel strongly that speed limits should be enforced. Yes braking distances are different in modern cars but a life is a life !!!!

However i do think that some reaseach needs doing to see if speed limits can be altered safely on some motorways.

I did the speed awareness course this year - it was pretty interesting and I did learn a few things.

I got caught doing 60 in a 50mph on the M62. I was simply not paying attention - I drive through the 50mph on the M4 in Port Talbot and never break it.

I've seen two people knocked down and killed in separate road incidents. Kinda makes you aware of the dangers of driving.

I was caught doing 47 on the M5 a while back, and took a speed awareness course instead of the points.

It was full of people raging against the injustices of the rules they had broken, I didn't see much evidence of contrition or understanding.

(including myself, tbh - I fell foul of a variable limit that I was too slow to react to, but had been under the previous limit (50))

Hardly "reckless"!

Yep.

I remember going into work at 6am and finding a chap had been caught out speeding home on the motorway from a party.

His car was upside down, against the front blade of a 36T D8 bulldozer.

They didn't offer him any courses, but I know for a fact he never did it again.

On our worst day we had 3 fatalities, so please observe the limits in the road-works.

I honestly believe that if the road or traffic conditions mean that you can't see the camera, van or speed trap then they aren't safe to exceed the limit.

Saying that, a clear day and an empty a46 and I will admit to having doubled the speed limit - I have zero points on my license and have never attended a speed awareness course

Stupidly yes currently have 6 points and cost in court fees, fines and solicitor was nearly £900!! Caught literally 6 foot past the 30 sign dropping from 50 road although I was doing 63 from overtaking two cars. Stupid mistake I'll never do again and frustrating considering the amount of mileage I click up each month. It's a stupid limit on that stretch of road even the police agreed it was not a 30 road

I was caught by a speed camera doing 88mph on the A1. I was not offered a course because, and I quote, I was 'going too fast!' Whoopsie. Luckily I don't actually have a car (was in a hire car) so I was good and the points expired.

I was glad I didn't do the course as you're supposed to do it at the station that fined you, which was Lincolnshire. It was have cost me more than the fine to do the course!

If they were to increase the speed limit, I think there should be variable limits between 70 and 85.

that makes sense as a new tire has 10mm , so taking in limit roughly 16 mm in diameter, i also thought it was 10% at 30 mph,but theres always the perfect driver who never speeds, my insurance told me over 70& of the clients have had sp30, i asked at work and most have had tickets, i have had 2 in 15 yrs

If you can give me a viable example of why a child would be on a motorway slip road whilst I'm in 2nd gear doing 70 then we can have a discussion, read at the top, I'm specifically talking about motorways.

Actually u cant. Cos I was caught in the 'Greater Manchester' area the courses were only offered in Gtr Mchr training venues. So it is restricted to which Borough that issued the fine

Having been stuck in jams on the M3 average stretch & seen the effect of accidents in a controlled area you have to wonder how safe it is forcing people to stick rigidly to a speed in a very busy stretch of motorway? The 'smart motorway's' have already caused fatalities. Clearly all losses and injuries are terrible, but speed is not the major causes of accidents on the road. In-attention, lack of experience, momentary distraction, & yes idiots on phones are more prevelant. The lack of motorway police means the cameras only pick up speeding...

The reason for the allowence of 10%+2 is to allow for variations in each vehicle's speedo. Different sized wheels and tyre profiles make a difference to their rolling radius which affects speed readings.

Never been done by a camera, been pulled for speeding a few times and told off but never reported for it. Always within 10 mph of the limit. Eventually my luck will run out.

White van drivers zooming up fast behind or old people driving too slow on motorways. I like some countries where u reach a certain age you are expected to take free driving test every 3 yrs to ensure ur eye sight/road awareness are still acceptable. Our health all deterioriates at some point, it keeps unsafe drivers off the road. OAPs are given free travel passes for a reason so why dont they use them. I rather have free travel!

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Got to go for a DAC in just over a week`s time. Got caught doing 37 in a 30 in a truck fitted with a speed limiter(!) Shame to speed limiter wasn`t automatic according to the speed limit! No, not clever, was in a bit of a rush to get back to the yard before w*rk fifnished and to be honest, the truck didn`t FEEL like it was going that fast!

Yep this week. First speeding ticket ever in 30 years of driving. I always drive 5/10 under and can't believe l messed up on the A 62 oldham road near beckford st..it's a 30 in a duel carriage and the camera is just past the bridge..

Frigging annoyed with myself apparently the 2nd most hot spot in the greater Manchester area

I did the course a few years ago after getting caught doing 38 in a 30 zone and learnt a lot.

Reference comments on speeds on motorways etc, Police friends of mine say that these days they aren't worried about those driving at 75, 80, or even a bit more as cars are safer etc. It's HOW YOU DRIVE that's important. Driving badly without due care etc will get you pulled.

Unfortunately this isn't the case round here on a Sunday .

It's a fucking nightmare being sat behind these people who drive just below the speed limit , or even slower , as it's their once a week treat to drive round the Cotswolds .

Mainly older drivers , co plate pain in the arse
