Prob going to get shot down in flames and i would just like to state i am in no way racist but james bond is a typical stereotype of a well educated British white gent, i am in no way racist but in my opinion casting idris elba is a wrong move, after all nobody would ever think of making a film where martin luther king played by a white actor,

MLK was a real person. Bond is a fictional character. You know Ira Aldridge was driven off the stage by daring to play Othello. Apparently, it was wrong for a black man to try and play a fictional black character.

Tom Hardy and Damien Lewis are such safe boring castings. They should push the character forward in age, I'd love to see an older grizzled, ex serviceman kind of Bond. Go for someone like Iain Glen, or of similar age and distinction.

Another Bond!

What is going on? First we had Connery,he lasted 10 years (20 years if you count never say never again)and 7 films. Then Moore (we'll gloss over Lazenby), he was good for 12 years and another 7 films. then things go down hill...

Dalton 2 films, Brosnan 4 films, Danial Craig another 4 films...

Maybe they will find someone who can last more than 4 films.

Not to mention that the films now days are more physically demanding on the actors. Bond has a lack of cgi (thank God. Yes I know they have a bit but not to the extent of the avengers)

Casting should be someone relatively unknown. Rather than someone already famous for other film roles or someone who's simply "hot and suave".

I've never liked Craig as Bond.

He is nothing like I imagine Bond to be. He was a naval commander, he should be suave, maybe have an air of gentry about him. Daniel Craig just seems like a cockney pickpocket dragged off the streets of London and every time I see him drive an Aston Martin I get the impression he's nicked it!

It is

Your opinions are always welcome, but in the right context

It's not as if the forums are lacking in threads where you can discuss your political or social opinions is it ?

It doesn't mean we have to turn innocuous threads such as this into an excuse for a mini rant.

You could have just said 'Jude Law' without airing your views on discrimination policy

While I think he is a smashing actor I would not like Idris Elba as Bond.James Bond was written as a white chatracter and while the PC brigade may push for this to change it should not happen, for example John Shaft is a black detective and should never ever be portrayed by a person of another colour/ethnicity.I have even heard people saying why not make Bond a woman? of course his ethnicity is of consequence,he was created as a spy for the british secret service to go undercover and infiltrate organisations, now as a white man in thet era he can pass pretty much most scrutiny if he stays in character but could a person of a different ethnicity do the same at the time he was created? I doubt it so therefore the character is quintessentially a white male who is suave and sophisticated by the standards of the day, just because we are now in a different era should not negate the whole foundation of the character

The foundation of the books is where the Bond legacy is created and as such he should remain a white man.

^^^Never thought of him but Jude Law would be a decent shout.

Ton Hardy, Fassbender would be good but my choice would be Tom Hiddleston.

"Prob going to get shot down in flames and i would just like to state i am in no way racist but james bond is a typical stereotype of a well educated British white gent, i am in no way racist but in my opinion casting idris elba is a wrong move, after all nobody would ever think of making a film where martin luther king played by a white actor,"

James Bond is portrait as English . The character is fictional and Mi6 and Mi5 have people and agents on their books that go from looking like Mr bean to Osama Bin Laden. Think about it!

"I don't think he can be replaced! He's the best Bond there will ever be! "

He's also in a film called Layer Cake. Great movie

Titz Towers, North Notts

Alba or Hardy.

They are both fine actors with gravitas and also they look like they could bump people off. Hiddleston, fine actor that he is, doesn't have that.

"

Fair play...

I guess, for me, the characters ethnicity is so inconsequential, particularly in relation to his other attributes, that I wouldn't be fussed either way.

of course his ethnicity is of consequence,he was created as a spy for the british secret service to go

undercover and infiltrate organisations, now as a white man in thet era he can pass pretty much most scrutiny if he stays in character but could a person of a different ethnicity do the same at the time he was created? I doubt it so therefore the

character is quintessentially a white male who is suave and sophisticated by the standards of the day, just because we are now in a different era should

not negate the whole foundation of

thecharacter

Gosh, yes, it would be terrible if Bond

became somehow unbelievable wouldn't it? Up until now, it has always been so Kitchen Sink

Try reading the books not judging by the movies.

I thought we were talking about who was best to take a lead in the movies - which, if you have read the books as I have, are very far removed? It's amazing how Moore et al fitted in with their incredible Russian accents.

In the current geopolitical climate we would probably be best having a Muslim, or at least an Asian Bond, n'est pas?"

No can do I'm afraid. They shot Osama Bin Laden a couple of years ago

"Michael Fassbender

Yes,absolutely,I've been saying this to anyone who'll listen. Fassbender would be excellent.

I think Craig is a very good Bond - closer to the original."

I'm for Fassbender, watch this clip and see why.

"I would be good, the names Bond, James Bond. I'll have a vodka martini, shaken but not spilled."

There's a line in one of the films where a women on water skis says " sorry Mr Bond, I've made you all wet", and Bond replies, " yes, but my martini is still dry", Classic.

"Spectre is beautiful, just no story "

There is a story as it links the new films back to the original ones... It also links all the Daniel Craig movies..

Up north!

Spectre was good, linked all old films etc, but the film lasted too long for the storyline. Wasn't as good as Skyfall which had lower expectations and also had the added storyline of going back to Bond's roots and also losing the wonderful Dame Judi Dench's character M.

In terms of next Bond, I'm hoping for Damian Lewis, as I've been told by a few people I look like him! I'd love to look like a Bond! Sadly I don't think I quite have the look though!

The reanimated corpse of the Queen Mother could give a decent performance...

I mean, it is all derivative, formulaic shite these days.

London

Can't sleep, but got to dissect some of these choices with some plain common sense:

Idris Elba - too black

Tom Hardy - too odd-looking

Damien Lewis - too ginger

Iain Glen - too old

Jason Statham - too Cockney, too bald

Tom Hiddleston - too puny

Charlie Hunnam - too Dick Van Dyke

Richard Armitage - too beaky

Which leaves Henry Cavill or Michael Fassbender. Neither are perfect, but could do a decent job, albeit in a George Lazenby kind of way.
