"If you own a Vauxhall Zafira B manufactured between '04 & '14 there's a risk it could spontaneously burst into flames. Apparently 100,000 vehicles may be affected. You can take your vehicle to Vauxhall for a free safety check. Heat is apparently building up behind the glove box area and there's no definitive cause been given yet but it may be down to non-approved aftermarket parts." Non approved aftermarket parts eh !? Brought in by EU legislation to free up the market and flood of inferior parts from China Or a cynical move by Opel to make customers buy only their products ?

" To be fair it's common that pattern parts don't work or don't work properly (non-Bosch MAF's are a classic). Given that there's fuses, relays and various electrical components in that area it's worth getting it checked and fixed for free.

"The most common part that's bought cheap on that area is the pollen filter that sits right where these fires happen .how many haven't been changed over the years and become clogged with dust dried leaves etc add a heat source and boom " Major bugbear of mine is the pollen filter. The number of cars that have been serviced by dealers and the pollen filter has been missed but still charged for on the job sheet is unreal.

"Cheap Chinese parts are a major problem in the auto industry in the USA. Lots of cases of steering columns failing and leading to accidents. " similar to this, used to be one could get decent none vehicle manufactured parts but seems now if you buy cheap you get dodgy.. I would never do it with tyres, and have always where possible gone with the advice of the garage i trust.. same issue several years ago with some white goods where some of the component were failing and causing fires to develop as they were poorly made..

If it is a resistor in the blower motor I'm wondering why it's not blowing the fuse before it gets to the point it catches fire." Yeah no signs at all,the only indication was the water sign came up on the dash ( I knew it had water as I had checked it that day before I left ) and while trying to pull into a safer place I thought uh oh, that brown smoke is not steam coming from the dash and then as soon as I stopped the car it took hold. The firemen who came to help ( two engines turned up, I was in heaven ) he said normally if it goes on fire while driving the indicators go on and off by themselves, but nothing like that happened.

Vauxhall cars have always been built on European chasis and floor plans and have German electrics and mostly Italian engines, so not American. All German cars are vastly overpriced and living on a reputation that hasn't been deserved for 15yrs. Vauxhall don't claim they're the best cars in the world, what they are are well priced family buses thatbsre cheap and easy to maintain in most cases. That's what seperates them from the German cars. And in case you're wondering, no, I don't own a Vauxhall.

"I had an Astra 2 years ago and the heater / radiator had to be replaced as it faulty and I need knew and was told wasn't drivable until replaced cause would catch fire eventually So made me think is it the same here with the zafira ?" I'm wondering if a faulty thermostat could be partly to blame. A majority of the time they fail open and the engine runs cool but cheap pattern stats can fail closed meaning the engine will run hot. There's also a known issue with some Vauxhall engines suffering water pump failure and dealers haven't followed the revised service schedule issued by Fiat (they recommend changing it at 60k miles or 5yrs rather than 100k miles or 10yrs). Obviously the impeller dropping off the water pump will cause excess heat too but it would normally take the timing belt with it.

Iv spent most of my life working on and modifying cars not with duck tape and cable ties before any of you think it haha I professionally do modifications to make cars faster and better and eliminate problems with them that manufacturers dont see or don't care about " Don't suppose you can lighten flywheels and have one for a k series lying around you don't want

Stripped out the EGR cooler, changed the inlet manifold for one without the swirl flaps and welded the EGR opening with an aluminium blanking plate. Also played with the breather system, fitted a catch tank and scanvenger to keep oil vapour away from the turbo and induction pipework. Fitted an FMIC and 120% injectors, solid mass flywheel and Kevlar clutch. Currently she's running 190bhp & 210bhp (dual map) and 400lbs of torque. Iv spent most of my life working on and modifying cars not with duck tape and cable ties before any of you think it haha I professionally do modifications to make cars faster and better and eliminate problems with them that manufacturers dont see or don't care about Recently changed the original 13 row oil cooler for a 19 row cooler on my Alfa. Next up will be a hybrid turbo and water/meth injection. Unsurprisingly her emissions are far better than they were as standard and I still get 54mpg on average. Looks like your goi g down the lines of new Pistons, and getting block reinforced now. Have you looked at wizards of nos kits , I am tempted , but can't get anymore from mine , without major component changes " Naa, I'm not wanting to push more than 230bhp, possibly 250. Torque is where the fun is and I get full torque at 1500rpm

Just get your cocks out and start measuring No competition, just talking modifications. No need for sarcasm. Exactly everyone knows that men with sports or modified cars have smaller penis than those that drive family hatchbacks . And we all know that the family hatchback drivers penis grows by 5 mm like pinocchios nose, when they beat a modified car from the lights " Mine IS the family car! Most of the work was really to give better reliability and driveability. Extra power and torque is just a happy by product.

"My next mod is the "big three" Wiring upgrade to 0 gauge Battery to alternator Battery ground Engine ground Increased voltage through all the wires!! Surprised you've not upgraded the grounding already, it makes a real difference. Have you dynamatted the interior yet?" I've done things a bit backwards to be honest, amp wiring is on 0 guage it's just the big three that need doing. I went from running 3000 watt peak and 1000 watt RMS to about 4500 peak and 1500 RMS with just an amp upgrade, wiring upgrade and a line out driver to feed extra voltage into the amp. I've used a brand called silent coat to sound deaden, I've double layered too, metal door frame work and the inside of the door card, same with the boot. The doors way a tonne now! Takes a good bit of effort to push them open https://youtu.be/0dYqN60gOhc ^ that's a link to the last test I ran

"Well the best answer is vauxhall is shit full stop no offence to those who own one. but German cars are good cars and vauxhall being American and German let German cars down as a lot of people just think there German company when we know it's not and it's gm motors that's the shit part of them iv had vauxhalls and worked on many of them and can safely say there shit quality cheap and nasty just like ford's are I wouldn't have ford or vauxhall cars as much as some look nice like a vxr but no good wrapping dog shit up to make it look good when at tge end of the day it's still shit inside Strangely enough I've worked on plenty of Vauxhall's and would have one over any German car currently made. German build quality has fallen through the floor in recent years and they're renowned for either covering it up or not issuing recalls (anyone familiar with VANOS will understand). Vauxhall aren't American either... funny that as iv been a mechanic since a little kid and most of my family have to and I live for cars so I laugh at what you say and I think most people would laugh to as your saying vw the most popular car in the road that's out sold every other car manufacturer and audi one of the nicest and quality built cars your saying vauxhall is better don't make me laugh oh also I think you should do some research as gm aka general motors is American company the production is German and opal is German You're both right really - Vauxhall is British but is a subsidiary of GM Motors Which is owned by Fiat... I'm no car expert but believe that fiat own Chrysler not the GM brand (I could be wrong)" Fiat Chrysler Automobiles headquartered in Turin; General Motors (still American) headquartered in Detroit
