Has anyone done this qualification?

Just got myself a new job and have to get this qualification with 18 months of taking up the post. Am hearing a lot of horror stories so just want to know if it's as bad as they all say lol

Also, are there any books/journals etc I can get beforehand to get myself ahead of the game?

collegue at work has just done it and nearly failed even though he had only just got his chemistry doctorate so believe what they say about how hard it is . our boss is currently doing it as our new owners have forced him to ( hes avoided it for ten years with our old owners ) think its costing between £800-1K for the course .

It's a pity its not a few years ago when my dad was alive - he had a license to teach the course and used to check the markers marking of papers for them.

It is a tough course but as with all tough courses the quality of the tutor will make a huge difference

then there's the cost of the course work books on top

I have recently done the national certificate course, yes it is quite daunting.

When you come to do the exam, try and remember the buzz words. A girl on our course did a full page for an answer, got no marks for it as she never used the buzz words.

I did mine in 14 weeks, doing 1 day a week. The course is split into 2, NGC1 is all the legal side of it, GC2 is based more on workplace, GC3 is a practical report done on one place in your workplace.

If I can help anymore please pm me.

It is so random I know several people who submit questions for the exams they even used to have mining ones till people complained there is no mining. Ericpd is one of the things to use lots of the acronyms. Good luck

"Surely you must do an IHOSH first?"

Nope. NEBOSH was all it stated on the advert as well as RPE training and something else, can't remember what.

I guess as NEBOSH is a higher qualification it will cover IOSHH stuff but to a higher level.

"Surely you must do an IHOSH first?"

Not really, IOSH is aimed at managers who have to have a basic understanding of Health and Safety. Nebosh goes into the H&S acts, the legal issues. It covers noise, working from heights, manual handling, risk assessment, and RIDDOR to name but a few topics.

I have, is hard work if its not a subject you are interested in and/or the tutor is the most boring individual on the planet. I did a 10 week course but 18 months should be a whole lot easier.

There are 3 parts to the test, one involves wandering around an area set up for you to decide what its wrong with it. The others am not sure though you do need to know the laws.

Good luck

I did the 13 week course, as said split into 3 sections, quite intense but we had a good tutor and lots of reading material, over an 18 month period should be a doddle......... I'm studying for my diploma now 3 yr course part time.

Done it myself

Might sound daft, but you may need to learn again

And do plenty of past exam papers; buzz words in the right context are needed to pass

It's not easy, but if you can accept the law as it is, then just plod through

Never thought I'd see NEBOSH on a sex site ????????

Nebosh isn't that bad you can usually get old exam papers just go over them as they only have a bank of so many questions they're just worded differently

They stopped doing the hazard test, you now do it in your own workplace. That makes it a little more easier, as you are familiar with the area.

If you are doing the certificate it isn't hard but the diploma is degree level. Try and find a 2 week intense course as I believe the pass rate is higher. I am no brains of Britain and I got a distinction (and no I didn't fuck the tutor lol)

Good luck.

The books that you will need are.

Introduction to health and safety at work (fifth edition)

There is a review guide as well, if you stick to the review guide you won't pass the course as there is not enough content in there.

Hi

I have iosh and nebosh

They are doable I did mine in 18 weeks

Of one day a week then exams

There are two week intensive residential courses out there if you Google

But I would recommend iosh first

Its 2 or 3 day and is a nice introduction and a recognised qualification in its own right

Good luck

I've got iosh that was OK but for nebosh I'd suggest getting something to record everything your tutor is telling you in your training so then you can play it back to yourself while doing your paperwork in the evening. It is a hard course but like anything you only get out what you put in. Good luck.

I did my general certificate a few years ago.

It was mostly death by PowerPoint, and until the last training day I was convinced I'd fail, then got in the exam and found it surprisingly easy.

Try not to overthink it and trust your instincts.

It's not difficult as such, it's just a fair bit of work to get it. I did mine with some right morons & nobody failed. If you do a couple hours a night while you're on it it's not hard. If you puss it up & snooze through class you'll panic out your arse.

Also, are there any books/journals etc I can get beforehand to get myself ahead of the game? "

Avoid the class room courses, it's too much to cram into 2 weeks. I did the Certificate on-line over 4 months, studying 2 hours a night

There is a high first time fail rate so don't worry if you fail one of the exams.

Take your time, make lots of notes, then make revision cards with the main points on to help revise on the weeks leading up to the exams.

I used a company called RRC amdcant fault them; I've done the 45001 auditor course through them and I've started the diploma with them too

Good luck, you'll be fine

I did the classroom course for my certificate and found it OK. I'd never be able to be disciplined enough to do distance learning. Passed both exams and my course work with a merit overall.

It is quite a difficult course and requires a lot of work, even if you are usually very good academically. It is also extremely good if you have a genuine interest in health and safety.
