Your over 50

It's simple excercize more and eat less

I put on weight when single so I am constantly watchin my weight

Nothing wrong with just eating a little less perhaps buy smaller plates and put on more veggies

As your 51 you know smoking and drinking in blokes gives them a fat Tummy

Bodmin

Metabolism sounds like the culprit. Try replacing a meal once a week with a bottle of water- water makes you feel full but has hardly any calorie value...

Yup - google Insulin Sensitivity/Insulin Resistance/Glycemic Index.

Quite apart from any other hormonal wierdness that us poor 50+ ladies have to suffer, sensitivity to insulin reduces as we get older. If, due to age, weightgain, or even a sudden drop in physical exercise our insulin sensitivity reduces, then we have to manage that by changing diet.

That basically means reducing the GI of our diet - cutting out simple sugars, cutting down on carbs and increasing their complexity. It's a pain, but it's perfectly doable.

Age probably I'm afraid. I have been more or less the same size all my adult life except during pregnancy of course. I have no idea how much I weigh though I just go by the fit of my clothes but I've found that I need to exercise that bit longer and harder to keep my waistbands comfortable.

Subtle changes in lifestyle that happen without us even noticing contribute.

I can thoroughly recommended refurbishing a house for increasing fitness levels

I was very much the same at your age, 30" waist well toned and still competitive in local 10k races but then I had two heart ops (sports related condition) so I didn't train for 18 months, put on 2.5 stone and went up to 34" waist - back training again this year (well I was until my motorbike accident) and now I'm 1/2 stone off my usual weight and a 32" waist.

Age does make a difference thoughts I do have wobbly bits and find it harder to tone up.
