"Benefits all in one place including housing benefit so people are in charge of their own finances. I wonder how many people can budget or get further into debt x" There will be an increase in evictions taking place due to rent arrears

"I think in some ways it will help people but it just seems from the little I know that its hard to get accepted and easy to get it taken away. " Give those idiots in the job centre even more power on your ability to survive. Your 3 minutes late today,am sanctioning you 4 weeks benefits. If you wish to appeal it will only take around 16 weeks. Just another method of control by unelected halfwits.

"So I read if labour get elected they are going to take universal credit back to the drawing board. I really believe that is the best idea. It just seems to have hit those in poverty even harder and I haven't heard any positive stories about universal credit myself. I am grateful not to be claiming, but feel frustrated for those who life has become an even bigger struggle before this system was put in place. " The idea of combining payments isn't a bad one. The implementation has been inexcusably bad. They've made arbitrary decisions around when payments do and don't start which defy basic common sense.

"I’ve not heard any positive stories about it. Apparently they give them their housing benefits in with it and it’s up to the claimant to then pay it, I suppose it’s a way of less paperwork for the government to do. But yes it’s pushing some people further into poverty as the rates overall aren’t the same as previous benefits x " I get my housing part of it paid direct to my landlord but I have to pay the difference as I get hammered for bedroom tax at 14% off what I should get.

But yes I don’t get why there’s an old man alone in a big house across the road from me that doesn’t have to pay it. Very unfair x

" Those in private housing are subject to a similar process. There is something called lha rates local housing authority rates .... if you live in a property with more bedrooms than you are entitled to you get paid the lha rate for the bedrooms you are entitled to.

" I was wondering about this after reading the child tax credit thread. I keep hearing about universal credit taking over from child tax credits and other benefits but I'm also hearing that this benefits is pushing people further and further over the poverty line has so many fewer people can be accepted to receive it, so ended up not being able to financially cope. I wondered what forum people think about it, and have you heard anything positive regarding it. " I have only heard bad things about Universal Credit. It is making people very poor and a lot of people homeless. The MP's are due to have a vote on the 29th of Ocotber about Universal Credit. 30 rebel conservative MP's are ready to vote against it. You could like I have done email your local MP and tell them you want them to vote against Universal Credit. If Universal Credit is not stopped eventually it will be the only benefit you can apply for. No more Job Seekers Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, Personal Independant Payments, Working Tax Credits, etc.

"The conservatives know poor people won’t vote for them so actively make them poorer. If you’re hungry, you’re not gonna learn, no learning means no qualifications means shit jobs. This means rich people stay richer. Universal Credit is immoral and disgusting and Labour will soon do away with it. " As with the bedroom charge it was a Labour idea taken up by the Conservatives

" My work colleague and his wife are receiving child benefits because he works as an assistant engineer and she looks after their disabled son. But if he moves up a full engineer he would be a lot worse off because the child benefits would be taken away. So he hasn’t got any drive anymore to move upto an engineer. It’s a shame because he works hard and he would be a great engineer.
