After reading all the great advice Courtney and imaginary Marc got about their Christmas trip it's my turn.

I'm going to be in Torquay over my birthday next weekend and I'd love some suggestions of what to do.

Hmmmm where do you pull surfers at this time of year? And will he be walking round with a shortie wetsuit pulled down showing his chest and that line of hair leading down to the fun stuff?

Not true!! He totally exists...it's just that he likes the attic

And Devon is beautiful. I know a ton of English heritage and national trust sites that are well worth your time, if you're into that sort of thing?

Go to the place where they filmed fawlty towers.

Just don't expect to see herds of wildebeest wandering across the plains from your window.

Oh yes I'm a Trust member.

And of course he's real lovey, we'll even make sure he's got his own seat reserved for him at the next social and make sure no one sits in it

Yes Courtney of course he does. He's up there right now with Santa and the Easter Bunny

On a serious note, I wouldn't mind taking in Devon myself. It does look lovely from what I've seen.

I'm going to make him post for a few days so you all believe me!!

As for national trust sites, I've been to the following and they were great. There are other's around as well that I haven't seen:

Compton Castle

A la Ronde

Lydford Gorge

Knightshayes

And if you're up for a bit of a drive nearer Cornwall, then one of my favorite sites is Lanhydrock. Expensive if you're not a member, but well worth the trip.

You definitely need Ben & Jenny. We've been to Dawlish 5 years in a row & this year he gave us ideas for new places to visit.

Pop into Plymouth and take in the restored docks, plenty of sailors and marines about, and take the little passenger ferry across to Mount Edgcumbe

Torbay

Look up Cockington...not a euphemism for something naughty! It's a pretty village that you can walk to from Torquay. It has stunning gardens with a manor house and in Autumn it's really pretty. But it also has glass blowers, blacksmiths, a chocolate makers and other crafts in a centre at the back. There is a coffee shop for the obligatory cream tea

T xx

PS we spend every October half term in Torbay...ignore the doubters!

Loads to do down here. As someone else has said Torquay town is run down and a bit of a dump, but the marina and waterside is lovely. Some nice bars and eateries around.

If you have a car, there are plenty of places to get to.

Lanhydrock is lovely as Courtney said

Castle Drogo is pretty cool

Take the paddle steamer from Totnes to Dartmouth. Or the steam train from Paignton to Dartmouth.

Plymouth Barbican and Hoe is worth a visit.

A meerkat experience at Shaldon Zoo is just £25 for 2 people. You get to sit in with the meerkats and feed them while they clamber over you.

For a drink in a lovely pub with great views, try the Carey Arms in Babbacombe.

While in Babbacombe, try Hanburys fish and chip shop.

Come to Teignmouth for the best fish restaurant I have ever eaten in, called the Crab Shack

The Fox and Hounds in Kingskerswell has the best carvery in the area.

For adult fun, Secrets in Totnes has a party on the Saturday night. They usually have about 100 couples on the night, we love it there!

There is also Steamers Quay in Torquay, although I have never been there, so cant give a review.

If there is anything else you want some suggestions on, drop me line.

Have a great stay

Ben xxx
