Do you think he spent enough time in the clink to fit the crime?

I don't.

"Do you think he spent enough time in the clink to fit the crime?

in theory under south african law he was eligible for house arrest after 1/6 of his sentence... he has actually served just over 1 year of a 5 yr term, so it could be argued that he has been negitively done by and served more time in prison for his offence than most people would have done.....

he will still have the same terms and conditions on his house arrest as anyone else.... in a way what has irked people is in effect the politics of envy because of where he gets to spend the rest of his house arrest....

what people are almost saying is that if he was poor... it would be fine because what he would be going home to would almost be worse than prison, but because he is rich he should spend more time inside.....

dangerous thing to say

As much as people disagree with the time he has seeved in prison for the crime he was convicted for, he is eligible for house arrest release under South African law, a law which sees other convicted felons also released after this time. He is also still subject to ongoing criminal proceedings which could see him recalled to prison for a longer period.

Disagree or agree I don't know, I think people will see where he is staying and think it is unfair yes, but he will be kept under house arrest in accordance with South African law and so that does make it fair purely looking at the law as it stands.

He murdered his girlfriend.

The sentence was inadequate.

compare a guy who shot his girlfriend and served a year or so in prison to a guy who had some alcohol and got , was it 300 lashes?

Bet the older guy would of preferred prison for a year.

The same people who were talking about he "knew the law of the land and should accept the lashes" probably will object to a year in prison and house arrest being too lenient.......law of the land and all that

Funny old thing is crime and punishment.

Yup... that's very true. I don't think the punishments fit either crime. Whilst I also think our justice system is a bit shit at times, it's a damn sight better than the draconian efforts in other countries but I suspect that's a whole new topic.

Brighton - even Hove!

There is going to be an appeal in 2 weeks anyway so he might go back to prison.

What a joke the SA legal system is.

Might have well just given him a fine and penalty points.

He spent enough time, as he's now under house arrest with me - that seriously is no light punishment he's serving.
